By the end of 2015, 57% of the world population will still not be able to connect to the web. Meanwhile, mobile connectivity is reaching saturation.
The UN has released the 2015 report of the Commission on broadband, a document over 100 pages provides a comprehensive overview of the status of connectivity around the world.
This year’s report states that more than 121 countries will reach saturation Mobile by the end of 2015, and that growth in these countries is now entrusted to the users who decide to move to 4G and the boost given by the payment platforms. The Commission also notes that by the end of the year will be the threshold of 7 billion mobile subscriptions (97 subscriptions per 100 people), due to the fact that more and more individual devices appear on the network.
The overall connectivity is coming to saturation in the developed world, with over 82% of the online population. In the report of 2011, the Commission had ambitiously set a target for 2015 of 60% of the world online, but this goal can hardly be cut before 2021.
This is due to the slow growth of connectivity in areas of the developing world, where only 34% of the population is connected to the Internet in a sedentary. By the end of 2015, 57% of the world population is not yet online, or about four billion people.
