New Ultra HD Blu-ray discs: designed capacity and specifications
The Blu-ray Disc Association has finalized the specifications of Ultra HD Blu-ray, revealing for the first time to the public the logo.
Who knew that the world of home-entertainment was stopping in Full HD is mistaken. Of course supported maximum resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 pixels (known as 4K), a wider range of colors, features HDR (high dynamic range) and contained ” high frame rate “, ie at 60 frames per second.
It will support future audio formats. Blu-ray Disc Association has not penetrated into further detail on the audio front, revealing only that there will be support of the formats ” object-based “, such as DTS and Dolby Atmos X. This is not of course a request mandatory, with the new format that will still be compatible with standard audio currently used and disseminated in the world of home-entertainment.
Ultimately, the industry is preparing for the arrival en masse of 4K content, with media designed ad-hoc for the new demands of home entertainment. The standard will also support a function of ” Digital Bridge “, with which content can be displayed not only on television but also on mobile devices outside. Essential characteristic for readers and televisions will naturally be the presence of a HDMI port 2.0a.
The first prototype of Ultra HD Blu-ray player was shown by Panasonic in January during CES in Las Vegas, while the BDA announced that the first licenses will be issued to third parties in the course of the summer, with the first player on the market will expect later this year.
