New family of solid-state drives for SanDisk, which wants to achieve with the series Z400s customer’s PC but also that of the embedded industry, with units starting from minor cuts and available in different form factors.
Not only top of the line live sector SSD. Indeed, we can say with certainty that the bulk of the market consists of cutting unit certainly not high and above the cost. The new SanDisk SSD Z400s seems to meet these needs and are told in clear words already in the press release: These units are designed for the mainstream PC audience, and also for the embedded industry.
The embedded sector includes all those electronic systems of processing made to perform a specific application and not many (such as PC). CNC milling machines, ATM machines, printers, medical equipment, musical instruments, decoder: are really many embedded systems surrounding us almost without realizing it, but the systems are still more or less in miniature with its computational needs and storage.
Usually, they come with hard drives, as economic, but the price drop within SSD allowed to take them into account when updating, strong performance much higher. Add to this that in these systems, except in rare cases, the required storage is really limited in terms of GB, it is even more clear how the SSD for embedded systems are more than ever accessible to anyone.
The new SanDisk Z400s is available in three form factors, 2.5 inch 7 mm, M.2 2280 and mSATA, with denominations of 32 GB, 64 GB, 128 GB and 256 GB. These performances are of about 550 MB per second read and 330 MB per second in writing, while the warranty is 3 years according to the official page. Nothing is known on the controller, while on the chip that we know are made using the 15nm manufacturing process. We will communicate the missing information as soon as we know more.
