Panda Security has released its quarterly security report, noting an increase in the number of threats released daily. The trend will remain constant throughout the year.
It was published the first report of the year by Panda Security on the malware in circulation in the first three months of 2015. The report analyzes the main IT security events that occurred in the first quarter of the year, and it is stressed that in the reporting period, there was an increase of 40% over the same period of 2014, with CryptoLocker that occurred responsible for the attacks more damaging.
The company has identified an average of over 250 thousand new species of malware per day, with peaks up to 500 thousand. Compared to the same period last year, the increase is significant, a trend that according to Panda Security will be maintained throughout the year for a value that will be around to about 205,000 malware daily. These are often variants of existing malware and disseminated, that the attackers modified to make them less easily detected by security tools.
Trojans continue to be the most common threat, going to occupy the 72.75% of all new malware available and representing also the main source of infection (76.05% of the total). But as we wrote above, the first months of 2015 have been dominated by ransomware attacks, including the most dangerous turned out to be CryptoLocker, which is one of the most appreciated by cyber criminals to get money through stolen information to companies.
A ransomware is a type of attack, which is limited to the owner access to the infected device. The attacker can thus ransom to unlock the limitations given. Numerous attacks have occurred also through social networks and mobile: one of the best-known scams took place on Facebook, which promised a gift card to use at Zara. Over 5,000 people have joined the event, and over 124,000 were sent invitations to participate.
On the mobile front, Android is once again betrayed by its nature open. The green robot continues to be the most mobile platform targeted by cyber criminals, this time to a greater extent through fraudulent SMS. China is still at the top of the most affected countries, where almost half of the computers in circulation have been violated in the first three months of 2015. Overall, the average is 36.51%, also an increase over statistics the first quarter of 2014.
The increase can be explained very simply: now we manage digital most sensitive information related to our profession. We have our bank account online, and we make our purchases in the portals of e-commerce. The aim of cyber criminals is to extort money and information and, with our lives becoming increasingly digital. We are increasingly exposed to the threats of the Web.
