The family OnHub of Google expands with a new model of router features 13 antennas and maximum speed of 1,900 Mbps. The new product is OnHub this time from ASUS.
Google announced the first router OnHub this summer with the promise that we would be soon several devices of the same family. In the past few hours, it has announced a second model, this time from ASUS, the price of $ 219 for the US market.
The company did not specify whether this model will reach other markets, where the first model produced in cooperation with TP-Link is currently sold only in the US and Canada.
ASUS OnHub is very noticeable on the design front, and very similar to the version already on the market for TP-Link. Even in this case, the form factor is cylindrical, with the diameter of the base which should be to decrease in the highest part. The status LED is this time placed into the lower (and not higher as in the model TP-Link), while the dimensions grow slightly. The novelty of the new model is Wave Control, a feature obtained through the integration of a proximity sensor.
According to the description given by Google, the feature allows you to increase the speed of connection with a certain device placing and moving your hand over the base of the router. What is not clear is the way ASUS OnHub not find the device to be given higher priority. It is a function that can in any case also be performed with the model TP-Link through the application management, but that with the model ASUS becomes even more simple and intuitive.
In terms of technical specifications, we do not find many upheavals and performance should be at the top again. The model ASUS should integrate the antennas 13 arranged at 360° typical of the previous model, in which six of these latch the signals in the 2.4 GHz, six other signals at 5 GHz and the remaining manage congestion between the various signals.
The maximum speed is also guaranteed in this case of 1,900Mbps, and upgrade procedures will be managed through a flash memory 4 GB.
Google also released a new firmware software on the first model that integrates a renewed management algorithm antennas that should dynamically select the best combination to offer each individual device the strongest signal possible.
The ASUS OnHub make the ease of use and setup their strong point, and that’s why the update will be automatically installed on the router, without any user interaction.
ASUS OnHub will be available in advance by the end of the week to $ 219, while the previous model TP-Link without Wave Control is priced at $ 199.
