The Korean company announced the start of volume production of a new chip capable of processing five parameters: fat mass, muscle mass, heart rate, skin temperature and sweating.
Samsung thinks it’s time to raise the bar of quality fitness tracker: the Korean company announced the start of volume production of the new Samsung Bio-Processor, a new solution that integrates the technological support necessary to measure five attributes: fat mass, muscle mass, heart rate, skin temperature and stress levels (in this case, it seems that it is simply sweating).
The first devices to use Bio-Processor will be delivered during the first half of 2016. The fitness trackers and smartwatch that have come on the market this year were much more limited than initially you could hope for with regard to the monitoring function’s health and physical activity. One of the biggest disappointments, to that effect, was Apple Watch that he brought with him only a sensor for heart rate instead of the number of sensors that were supposed to launch.
Some progress has been made attractive by the new Microsoft Band 2, which includes a barometer, and a sensor for the galvanic skin response. Samsung apparently wants to avoid losing contact with competitors and is trying to increase the pace: remain to be seen as credible and reliable data will be collected by the new Bio-Processor.
” With the improvement of fitness devices and greater health awareness by consumers, more and more people are looking for new ways to monitor the parameters for managing their personal health. The Samsung Bio-Processor, which can process five different biometric signals, is the chip monitoring most versatile on the market today and will open many health-based services to our customers, ” noted Ben K. Hur, vice president of marketing for the System LSI Division of Samsung Electronics.
The new chip will of course be integrated into Samsung’s next-generation wearable, but it seems that the Korean company is also willing to provide to third parties your Bio-Processor. The devices that will integrate this new chip can take various forms, from the traditional bracelets and watches, to space and form factor solutions to the most unusual. It just has to wait for the new year.
