We could not wait to get their hands on this Lumia 1520, first phablet made by Nokia. Before the Christmas holidays there the Finnish company has made available one, we have stressed her going to offer this comprehensive review. When we write a review, we try to be as impartial as possible. We describe the product by putting in the shoes of an average consumer who knows very little of processors, RAM, and so on.
With this Nokia Lumia 1520, we did the same. It is a smartphone, oops, a phablet truly cutting-edge technical characteristics and its performance, but as usual, I cannot miss the downsides. Let’s start looking aesthetic.
Nokia Lumia 1520 – Design and Display
The design of this device impressed me a lot. It is quite the same as many other Lumia that Nokia has put on the market this year, but maybe it was just his enormous size to hit me. Pulling it out of the box almost will not believe your eyes, especially if you’re already using Windows Phone. It must be said that the thickness is reduced to the very minimum. We speak of just 8.7 mm thick, possible also thanks to the enormous surface of phablet, which allowed Nokia to distribute in the best way the various internal components.
As regards height and width, the Lumia measure 16.3 cm in height and 8.5 cm in width. On the right side, there are the physical buttons, protruding less than most of the Lumia seen to date on the market, while on the left, we find the special compartments for SIM and SD. Later we find the huge camera and the LED flash on the top, the Nokia logo in the center and the speaker at the bottom. Everything is delivered flawlessly. Nothing is out of place.
Also excellent display, which has a 6-inch 1920 × 1080 resolutions, 367 PPI. At first glance, I assure you that this screen will only make you fall in love. By the time we’ll get used to, this is true, but if you come from another Windows Phone assure you that the leap will be the net. Want to greatness, either by the pixel density, I found myself really well with this screen, always readable even in sunlight.
Nokia Lumia 1520 – Hardware and Camera
If you design and displays are to be promoted with flying colors, the hardware package is certainly not less. This Nokia Lumia 1520 it mounts a 800 quad-core snapdragon processor 2.2 Ghz accompanied by no less than 2 GB of RAM. The benefits are out of the ordinary. Open any app in more than two seconds. Take a look at the video review that found below to see with your own eyes the overall speed of this Nokia phablet.
Not bad even 20 megapixel rear camera. We tried it both day and night, and I have to admit that the results are truly amazing. You can see here and here two photos taken with Nokia Lumia 1520 (day and night) in the original resolution. Also excellent functionality retouching and photo shooting, thanks to Windows Phone 8, which provides good software like Nokia Cinemagraph, and many settings, such as ISO choice, setting, etc…. If you love taking pictures this Lumia 1520 is sure to be an ideal travel companion. Too bad for the front camera, 1.2 megapixels alone.
Having an area so vast available, Nokia has been able to enter within this phablet a battery large enough, by 3400 mAh battery. During our tests, with the average use / intense, we arrived a day and a half of use. So, counting you need to recharge the device every holy night, not to find yourself with half battery and then the next day, we say that this Lumia 1520 guarantees the arrival at the end of the day even with the intense use.
Nokia Lumia 1520 – Operating System and Connectivity
I dedicate this review in part to Windows Phone, which has had to evolve to support this type of display. Due to the huge 6-inch screen, we can to have a third column Tile. We will be able to manage in the best way our screen, when they have more icons on one screen, Live Tile even more, even more information. Open Tile simply would have been a totally unnecessary work for Microsoft, so congratulations on your purchase. So phablet the Windows Phone are certainly more useful and worthy of special attention.
We end the review of the Nokia Lumia 1520 talking about the connectivity. Obviously offers Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, USB 2.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 a / b / g / n / ac, support the LTE network but through the Nano-SIM, the same standard used by the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s.
