AMD Ryzen 7 CPU and Radeon RX 580 GPU for the new Asus ROG Strix laptop
The ASUS ROG Strix GL702ZC-WB74 laptop is the first based on AMD Ryzen 7 processor, able to make available to gamers a considerable computing power thanks to the Radeon RX 580 GPU.
The ASUS ROG Strix GL702ZC-WB74 laptop is officially on the market, name behind which is a very interesting hardware configuration that has been anticipated in recent weeks. This model is based on the AMD Ryzen 7 1700 processor, combined with a Radeon RX 580 video card with a 17-inch diagonal screen.
It is a laptop specifically developed for the needs of gamers, able to provide a high overall computing power thanks to the 8 cores integrated in the AMD Ryzen 7 1700 CPU. This processor model has a standard TDP of 65 Watt , a value higher than what is typically associated with CPUs intended for laptops for gamers: it is easy to assume that its actual clock frequency at full load is not that boost of 3.7 GHz that on the card this CPU can touch, for of the lower thermal dissipation capacity of a laptop compared to a desktop.
The hardware equipment, as reported, provides an AMD Radeon RX 580 video card with 4 Gbytes of video memory: even in this case it is a desktop component, on which it is easy to predict that ASUS has intervened to keep consumption under control through a dynamic management of the clock frequency.
The technical features include a 256 Gbytes SSD flanked by a 1 TB mechanical hard disk, plus 16 Gbytes of DDR4 system memory. The 17-inch diagonal screen, with IPS technology, has a Full HD resolution of 1,920×1,080 pixels, a solution that we find is correct by virtue of the combined video card, and the performance that you want to provide the gamers; it is capable of a refresh rate of 60 Hz and supports FreeSync technology.
The overall dimensions, by virtue of the components chosen and the 17-inch screen, are important: 41.2×27.5×3.4 cm, with a weight of 3.2 kg and a 280 Watt external power supply that ensures the notebook operation full power when powered from the mains. ASUS ROG Strix GL702ZC-WB74 is currently proposed for sale in North America at an indicative price list of $1,499, excluding taxes; we do not currently have direct information on its marketing in our market.
