How to block a contact on WhatsApp

How to block a WhatsApp contact on Android

If you have an Android smartphone, be it Samsung, LG, Huawei or any other brand, blocking a WhatsApp contact is really simple and immediate: much easier than silencing a live person!

The first thing to do, of course, is to start WhatsApp: at this point, you have to look for the person you want to block; To do this, click on the magnifying glass icon at the top right, then start typing the name of the contact that you do not want to hear for a while and, once you have appeared in the list, click on it.

Once the screen is open, click on the three dots at the top right to open the menu, then select More and finally Block; before the contact is actually blocked, a last confirmation screen will appear: if you are sure, you do not want to hear that person for a while, click OK to complete the operation.

If you change your mind, and you want to unlock a person, you have to perform exactly the same steps: look for the contact to unlock, click on the three dots on the top right, then on More and then on Unlock.

Finally, keep in mind that there is a screen where you can see all the people you have blocked: just start the app, open the menu by clicking on the three points at the top right, then select Settings, then Account then click on Privacy and finally on blocked contacts.

Note: From this screen, it is also possible to unlock the contacts by clicking on it and then selecting Unblock or Block other contacts, using the button with the profile and the + button at the top right.

How to silence contacts or groups on Android

If you do not want to totally block a person but simply no longer receive notifications when writing, you can silence it: keep in mind that it is also possible to silence a group, so as not to receive annoying notifications every time someone writes.

To silence a group, you must first open the affected chat, then as always click the three dots in the upper right to display the menu and select Silent.

In the screen that opens, select how long you want to silence the group: you can choose between 8 hours, 1 week or even 1 year; furthermore, keep in mind that clicking on the item below Show notifications will continue to receive notifications, but these will not make the smartphone ring or vibrate.


How to block a WhatsApp contact on iPhone

Even if you have an iPhone, the steps to block a WhatsApp contact are really elementary and very similar to those already seen for Android. First start WhatsApp, then click on the Contacts icon in the middle down and find the person you want to block by typing its name in the top bar.

Once you find the contact, click on it to open the chat: at this point, to block the number in question just click on the name above, to open the contact information; in this screen, you have to scroll to the bottom to find the item Block this contact. Click on it and it will open a small screen at the bottom that asks you to confirm: if you are sure, you do not want to hear this person for a while, click on Block and breathe a sigh of relief.

If after a while you have forgiven your petulant friend and want to unblock it, just follow the exact same procedure: look for the contact from the list, then click on the name at the top and scroll to the bottom where you can click Unblock this contact.

If you have blocked more than one person on WhatsApp, bear in mind that there is a screen where you can check all the numbers that can no longer write or call you. To access this menu, you must open WhatsApp, click on Settings at the bottom right, then select Account and then Privacy: here you will find the item Blocked and, clicking on it, you will have the list of people unlocked.

Also on iPhone, of course, you can silence a contact or a group if you no longer want to receive stressful notifications from the hammering messages: keep in mind that blocking is different from silencing, because in this last case, the messages continue to arrive regularly, but simply not they produce more notifications and do not make the smartphone ring.

Without this premise, silencing a group or a contact is very simple and does exactly the same way: first open WhatsApp and look for the person or group from which you no longer want to receive notifications.

After opening the screen, click on the name at the top, then select Silent; at this point, you will see a menu at the bottom asking you to choose how long you do not want to receive notifications from that chat: you can choose between 8 hours, 1 week or a full year.
