Windows 10, the Ultimate Performance mode is coming with no compromises
The new mode will be exclusive to Windows 10 Pro for Workstations, and will sacrifice efficiency to deliver the best possible hardware performance.
Microsoft is adding a new default energy profile on Windows 10 Pro for Workstations, giving the ability to get the most performance out of each specific system. The new mode, aimed at professionals or those who use high-performance workstations, will be available starting with the release of the next major update, scheduled for debut in March or April.
The new profile, known as Ultimate Performance, will introduce new energy management options so as to integrated hardware as much as possible.
” The innovations are based on the current High-Performance policy, taking everything to a new level in order to eliminate micro-latencies thanks to finer energy management techniques ” , said Dona Sarkar, manager of Microsoft’s Windows Insider division. ” Since the new energy profile aims to eliminate micro-latencies, it can use the hardware in a different way, consuming more energy than the default active balanced plan “. It is the usual compromise to choose: maximum performance or maximum energy efficiency?
The new mode will not be present on battery-powered systems, but only on high-end fixed workstations. Unfortunately, this function will not be present on all Windows 10 SKUs, but only and exclusively on the workstation-specific variant.
It is not designed, for example: for the powerful gaming systems: for the latter, there is the Game Mode, a special mode to offer video games the highest priority in the execution and, consequently, the highest performance possible based on the settings and hardware specifications.
Windows 10 Pro for Workstations is a relatively young SKU of the operating system. It was released last year by targeting highly demanding professionals, server administrators or users. It is recommended for use primarily on systems with different logical processors and large amounts of RAM, also supporting specific features to achieve maximum performance with storage systems or network adapters.
