Fiio M7: New portable player with USB Type-C

FiiO announces a novelty: FiiO M7 is included in the Chinese company’s price list as a product with an affordable price, but with features that are not particularly attractive outside of the dedicated components.

FiiO has announced an evolution of its range of portable players: the new FiiO M7 raises the bar in the medium-low range of the Chinese manufacturer’s offer, bringing new features (including the USB Type-C) at an affordable price.

The FiiO M7 fits in half between the FiiO X3 III and the FiiO X5 III: it has small dimensions and specifications, but uses Android as an operating system and an aluminum monobloc body. One cannot fail to notice a certain similarity with the Cayin N5ii, a higher-end DAP that has managed to conquer an important part of the public also due to its original design.

Fiio M7 Music PlayerThe front houses a 3.2-inch screen with a resolution of 800 x480, while on the sides, there is a slot for microSD (with capacity up to 512 GB, with just 2 GB of internal memory) and physical buttons, including a wheel for volume adjustment.

To be particularly interesting is the ” musical ” endowment: inside the reader, there is an ESS Saber 9018Q2C DAC, able to manage PCM audio streams up to 32 bits at 384 kHz or DSD up to 11.2 MHz (DSD256 ).

According to the company, the output power is 70 mW for headphones of 16 Ω and 40 mW for headphones of 32 Ω; these are not excellent values and, on the contrary, such low values prevent the use of high impedance headphones (the use of which is one of the main reasons for which to buy this type of product).

The FiiO M7 seems to be used for intrauricular monitors and headphones with low impedance portability; the main difference compared to smartphones seems to be given by the DAC of higher quality than the average, and the circuitry designed explicitly to ensure the highest sound quality.

On the front of the connectivity, the FiiO M7 stands out in a positive sense: it supports the Bluetooth 4.2 standard with aptX HD and LDAC, as well as having access to the FM radio and owning a USB Type-C port (for the first time on a FiiO product). The FiiO M7 is sold by the company at around $260.
