ASUS ScreenPad: The touchpad becomes like the MacBook Touch Bar

Some information emerged on a device called ” ASUS ScreenPad ” suggest that the Taiwanese company wants to present an ” intelligent ” touchpad that recalls the features offered by Apple’s Touch Bar.

The advent of the Touch Bar on MacBooks has caused quite a few perplexities and, on the other hand, not a few compliments for the innovation that this has brought. Whatever the opinion expressed on this tool, it seems that the idea is not going to be confined to Apple products: ASUS is working on ScreenPad, a sort of middle way between a touchpad and a Touch Bar.

The idea is not entirely new: use a screen instead of the touchpad to show information of various kinds. If you have already talked about the concept, which has not seen much practical application, the novelty lies in the fact that ASUS seems intent on implementing the ScreenPad similar to the TouchBar, with extensions of the functionality of the applications in use or even with special applications.

It is not yet known precisely which notebooks will implement it or if, on the contrary, it will be a separate product to be added to existing laptops. According to the first data available, it seems that it is necessary that the laptop is equipped with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 at a minimum, along with a ” precision touchpad ” and some chips produced by Toshiba. Requirements certainly not from low-end laptops.

The first details emerged thanks to some screenshots, as reported by SlashGear, which suggest the possibility that the ScreenPad completely replaces the keyboard because of the Full-HD resolution (1,920 x 1,080) adopted. It is likely that ASUS will announce the news at Computex, which will be held next week in Taiwan.
