Ricoh Theta Z1: 360° 4K video camera with RAW support
Ricoh Theta Z1 is a new 360° camera capable of saving files even in RAW as well as ensuring, according to the manufacturer, a decidedly high quality. Many changes compared to the Theta V, the price is instead set at $1,000.
A new 360° camera was presented by Ricoh in these hours: it is the Ricoh Theta Z1 that aims at the high end of the market, also considering the price of $1,000 to which it is sold. Here are the main features.
The new Ricoh Theta Z1 has two 1″ backlit CMOS sensors with which it is able to capture images from 23 MPixel (6,720 x 3,360 pixels) or 4K/30p video, obviously in both cases at 360°. But it’s not over here.
In fact, the sensitivity varies from ISO 80 to ISO 6,400 while a new image analysis and management algorithm provides to improve the overall quality. The HDR mode has been improved but also some additional features such as the possibility of taking sequential shots and then automatically merging them.
With the Ricoh Theta Z1 three openings can be set equal to f/2.1, f/3.5 and f/5.6 so as to be able to take advantage of shots both in areas with low light and when the light increases. The optical part includes 14 lenses in 10 groups. The system also includes a three-axis optical stabilization capable of stabilizing images even when shooting videos.
Among the available modes, there is automatic exposure with aperture priority (Av), automatic exposure with time priority (Tv), automatic exposure of ISO sensitivity and manual.
Ricoh Theta Z1 has a four-channel microphone that can record 360-degree spatial audio useful for virtual reality (VR) applications. On the support, there is a 0.93″ OLED display showing essential information for operation.
The storage capacity is 19 GB while the connectivity is Bluetooth 4.2 and Wi-Fi 802.11ac while the Time-shift Shooting feature allows you to ” remove ” the photographer from the images taken automatically.
The dimensions are 48 x 132.5 x 29.7 mm while the weight is 182 grams. The battery, according to the manufacturer, allows you to take 300 photographs or take 60 minutes of video footage and can recharge it via USB Type-C (USB 3.0).
