Leica Q2: the compact full frame reaches 47.3 megapixels
28mm stabilized Summilux optics, 47.3 megapixel Full Frame sensor, 3.68 million points OLED viewfinder: the new Leica Q2 has the credentials to repeat the success of the previous model.
Leica Q is certainly one of the best-selling products of the German manufacturer in recent years. Small, compact and damn effective in the field. Presented in 2015 it did not lend itself to old age, based on a solid base composed of 28mm f/1.7 optics and Full Frame CMOS 24 megapixel.
In any case, Leica wanted to present today the new Leica Q2, which doubles its resolution, using a 35mm sensor with as many as effective 47.3 megapixels, coupled with 28 mm stabilized optics (Summilux 1: 1.7 / 28 ASPH.) adopts three aspherical elements. The resolution to many will bring to mind the Panasonic S1 R and is probably one of the fruits of the even closer collaboration after the birth of the L-Mount Alliance in a mirrorless environment.
The sensor offers a total of 50.4 million pixels and offers 14 stops of dynamic range and 14-bit color depth. The video sector is also interesting, with the possibility of shooting 4K 30p/24p or Cinema 4K video at 24p and Full HD up to 120 fps.
For the viewfinder, Leica has chosen the interesting 3.68 million pixel OLED panel, widely used on high-end mirrorless and capable of excellent performance. Returning to the shots, they can be shot with ISO sensitivities between 50 and 50,000.
The 28mm lens has a focusing range between 30cm and infinity, while in macro mode, the minimum focusing distance drops 17cm. The autofocus based on the detection of the contrast on 225 zones promises to be very fast, with engagement times of 0.15 seconds. Offers subject tracking and face recognition.
The mechanical shutter can work up to 1/2000 of a second, while with the electronic shutter, you can go down to 1/40,000 of a second. The synchro flash is at 1/500 of a second.
In line with the modern soul of the latest products, the Leica Q2 offers Wi-Fi connectivity, to which is added the Bluetooth LE for easier initial connection and for a constant connection with the smartphone, without draining too much energy from the battery.
