Samsung Galaxy Book S, almost 30 hours of battery life thanks to Snapdragon 8cx
Officially unveiled Samsung Galaxy Book S, powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx platform and able to guarantee almost 30 hours of battery life, always on connectivity, Gigabit LTE and much more.
Samsung, in addition to the Galaxy Note 10 on which many eyes are focused, also presented Galaxy Book S, an ultraportable with very interesting features. The most important is surely the one concerning the chosen platform, that is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx of which we have spoken in this deepening.
Let’s start from why use a platform that, as a name, many associate with the smartphone world. First of all, the consumption, really reduced compared to the typical solutions of the Intel / AMD brand sector.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon SoCs, due to their nature, are extremely optimized to consume little, while guaranteeing good performance when the system requires them. The CPU component (TDP 7W) is a 64-bit with 8 cores with a maximum frequency of 2.84 GHz.
The individual Kryo 495 cores are joined by 10MB of cache and promise, on paper, 50% higher performance than an Intel U-series CPU, with TDP 15W. On the GPU front, we find the Adreno 680 Extreme chip, capable of supporting the APCI DirectX 12 as well as managing up to two video streams in 4K HRD at 120FPS.
But let’s now come to the Galaxy Book S, realized as you will have guessed for the mobility given the autonomy of almost 30 hours and the very light weight, 0.96Kg. The display is a 13.3-inch multitouch TFT with a resolution of 1,920×1,080 pixels and a 16: 9 ratio, while the total dimensions are 305.2 x 203.2 x 6.2-11.8mm, respectively for width, depth and thickness.
In quantity of RAM it is 8GB, while for the main storage we find SSDs from 256 to 512GB depending on the models, with margins of expandability by MicroSD (up to 1TB). The battery is a 42Wh, while on the front connectivity, we find the LTE module Cat.18 and Nano SIM slot, Wi-Fi MU-MIMO, Bluetooth 5.0.
There are two ports, of the USB Type-C, one of which is used to recharge the battery. Do not miss the fingerprint sensor, one for detecting the ambient brightness (to adjust the keyboard backlight) and also a pair of AKG branded speakers, combined with the Dolpy Atmos technology. Two colors are available, Earthy Gold and Mercury Gray, with marketing expected for September. Prices? Not communicated, but we know that in the US, $999 was indicated for the base model.
