Panasonic Lumix S1H: Arriva la mirrorless con registrazione 6K
Announced months ago, it is now officially presented and will be available starting in September. Two new 24-70 and 25mm lenses also arrive.
Panasonic presented the new Lumix S1H, a full-frame mirrorless with a particular inclination towards video production: in the long list of technical features stands out the ability to record in 6K resolution and for an unlimited time, thus making it a powerful tool in the hands of videomakers.
The new full-frame has a 24-megapixel sensor that should be identical to that of the DC-S1, with the addition of an anti-aliasing filter to reduce the moiré effect. There is an IBIS system that can reduce the blur up to 6.5 stops (according to Panasonic statements) in the case of compatible ” Dual IS 2 ” lenses.
Panasonic had already announced it in development, the Lumix S1H is the first camera in the world capable of recording video in 6K/24p (aspect ratio 3: 2), 5.9K / 30p (aspect ratio 16: 9 ) and 10 bit 60p 4K / C4K. Also available are HDR (High Dynamic Range) modes in HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma), 4:2:2 10-bit via HDMI output and 4: 3 anamorphic output along with a wide range of practical tools for filming, example tally lights, a waveform monitor and a V-Log View Assist function.
The Dual Native ISO sensitivity is one of the distinctive features of Lumix S1H, descending directly from the VariCam range in which it was first introduced. This particular technology is based on a process that allows to extract more information from the sensor without image degradation.
In this way, the camera can pass from a standard sensitivity to a high one, managing to contain the increase in noise and the presence of artifacts. This Dual Native ISO technology can be switched manually between LOW (ISO 640-5000) and HIGH (ISO 4000-51200).
Also worth mentioning is the possibility of operating in VFR (Variable Frame Rate), to be able to record video with overcranking / undercranking in C4K/4K (60 fps, max 2.5 times slower in 24p) and FHD (180 fps, max 7.5 times slower in 24p). The minimum frame rate for the quick motion video is 2 fps. In addition, HFR (High Frame Rate) video with audio is recordable even when using auto focus.
The new Panasonic Lumix S1H also makes use of the V-Log and V-Gamut features of the professional cameras of the VariCam line of the Japanese company which allow to capture 14 stops of dynamic range.
The dimensions of the machine body are greater than the model S1/S1R also due to the presence of an elaborate system to prevent overheating, which involves the presence of a small fan inserted between the body and the rear screen. The latter, fully articulated, is embodied as an LDC touchscreen with 2.33M of points. On the shoulder, there is a small display that reproduces the shooting / recording data, while for the viewfinder we find the same high resolution, electronic unit already used for S1/S1R.
Connection ports include mini-jack for headphones, microphone, HDMI and synchronization socket for time code and strobe lights. XLR ports can be added with an optional adapter, which can also record audio at 48 and 96 kHz. Finally present a dual SD slot, which supports V90 UHS-II media.
The new Lumix S1H at a price of 4000 dollars, for the camera body only. Panasonic has also announced two new lenses: LUMIX S PRO 24-70 mm F2.8 (16 elements in 8 groups) with L-Mount coupling featuring a double linear and step-by-step focusing system and tropicalization for resistance to dust and splashes, and LEICA DG SUMMILUX 25 mm / F1.4 II ASPH (9 elements in 7 groups) also tropical. Both available during the month of October, they will be offered at $2,200 and $699 respectively.
