Garmin Fenix 6, also in version 6X Pro Solar Edition with solar charging

Here are the new Garmin Fenix 6S/6/6X GPS watches, divided in turn into Pro, Sapphire and Sport versions. The real gem is Garmin Fenix 6X Pro Solar with integrated photovoltaic technology that allows you to increase your autonomy by obtaining energy from sunlight.

New Garmin Fenix 6 GPS SportWatches, also with solar charging

For all those who run with a low or medium-range Garmin GPS watch, the Fenix model is a true object of desire. In Chamonix, during the tough Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc race, also known in its abbreviated form as UTMB, the US company organized the official presentation event for the new Fenix 6 model.

Over the years, this GPS SportWatch has won over audiences of outdoor enthusiasts and mountain runners, focusing heavily on battery life. Right here is the great novelty of the sixth generation, with the Fenix 6S/6/6X, divided in turn into Pro, Sapphire and Sport versions.

They are all equipped with the new Power Manager function for more efficient battery management. But the real gem is integrated in the Fenix 6X Pro Solar model, which with the photovoltaic technology allows to increase the autonomy, obtaining energy from the sunlight.

An idea that is not new, already used on Japanese-made watches years ago, but which represents a novelty in the world of smartwatches, products that are decidedly more voracious than energy and more difficult to feed than the old traditional watches, for which a battery offers energy for years of autonomy.

This feature allows the introduction of Power Glass, a thin transparent photovoltaic lens that captures solar energy. The declared autonomy of Fenix 6X Pro Solar, in smartwatch mode, is 21 days, which can extend up to 24 hours more per week using solar charging, according to information released by Garmin.

The pace, understood as the time taken to cover a certain distance, expressed in the race often in minutes per kilometer, is one of the magnitudes that runners most often keep an eye on. Garmin on the new models has news in this field too, with the PacePro feature, which allows you to precisely calculate and compare the pace on the different slopes of the route.

The models differ in their case and dimensions: Fenix 6S maintains the dimensions of the display of the previous series: 1.2″ inches and a 42mm case, ideal for smaller wrists.

The Fenix 6 and Fenix 6X models offer the novelty of a screen instead of larger dimensions, respectively of 1.3″ inches (with a resolution of 260×260 pixels and a case with a diameter of 47 mm) and 1.4″ inches (with a resolution of 280×280 pixels case with a diameter of 51 mm).

The Fenix 6 and Fenix 6X display make the dial of these two models wider, respectively, by 17% and 36% compared to the previous Fenix series dial.

The versions are distinguished by details. The Fenix 6 PRO versions of the Fenix 6 series are distinguished by the presence of Corning Gorilla Glass, while – as the name suggests – the Sapphire versions make use of an even more resistant (but also expensive) sapphire crystal.

The entire range also allows you to view the TopoActive Europe maps dedicated to the outdoor and another novelty, integrates the maps of over 2,000 ski resorts for alpine skiing (complete with names and difficulty coefficients of the slopes) and 41,000 golf courses at level world.

Among the very popular sizes among modern athletes we also find the VO2 Max, a measure of one’s state of form: on the new series, we find the indication Training Status and the revised VO2 max estimation algorithm that now provides information on the form status physics taking into account not only workloads, but also altitude and temperature. Then we also find Stress Score and the optical Pulse Ox sensor for an analysis of oxygen saturation in the blood.

There is no shortage of internal memory and Bluetooth connection to listen to your music, taking advantage of the Spotify, Deezer and Amazon Music subscriptions even without the telephone, and the NFC to use Garmin Pay and make payments with the wrist without having with them cards or smartphones.

The SPORT references of the Fenix 6S and Fenix 6 models are simplified and less expensive. Available only with mineral glass, they are distributed without cartography, Wi-Fi protocol and are not enabled for off-line listening to music through music apps; have NFC technology for payments directly from the wrist and finally have a reduced internal memory compared to the rest of the range equal to 64 MB, instead of 32 GB of the other models with cartography and on-board music.
