Quality pays off. Indeed, the quality is paid. Amazon also arrives in the business model of online music streaming services with a premium HD plan. In addition to the Prime Music plan, included in the Amazon Prime subscription, and in addition to Amazon Music Unlimited, which offers a much wider catalog of listenable songs in streaming, now the giant of Jeff Bezos focuses on a third option, called Amazon Music HD, which will offer the streaming of songs in a high resolution format.
We are talking about 50 million audio tracks in HD format, that is 16-bit lossless audio – 44.1kHz, with 850 kbps bitrate, also called ‘CD quality’, and some and unspecified millions in Ultra HD format that further raises the bar and offers 24-bit lossless audio, up to 192kHz, at 3730 kbps, the highest quality available in streaming.
The undeclared aim is to target services like Tidal and Qobuz, which have made high-quality lossless audio streaming their strong point. Amazon also wants to create competition for services like Spotify, YouTube Music and iTunes.
