Surface Neo: here is the dual screen device from Microsoft
Microsoft has officially announced the new dual-screen device during the event dedicated to new products in the Surface family. It is not really a foldable device as some expected.
Microsoft revealed Surface Neo, a product belonging to a new segment that will use a variant of Windows 10, or Windows 10X. Microsoft called it a version of the operating system optimized for dual-screen devices.
Microsoft Surface Neo, a ” mini ” tablet but with a dual screen
It clearly consists of two distinct screens and not a single display that is able to fold. The device is not particularly large and looks like a notebook when folded with the two touch screens. It uses an Intel Lakefield type processor, while each side of the device is 5.6 mm thick. The two screens have a 9-inch diagonal.
Surface Neo has a robust hinge that can rotate the displays 360 degrees, so you can use the device in different configurations. For example: in ” laptop mode ” where the user types on one screen, while the other is perpendicularly oriented.
During the event, it was shown how the device automatically recognizes the hardware keyboard when connected and activates what is called ” Wonderbar “. One of the two screens is used in a particular way offering innovative control modes: among other uses, for example: it can be used as a trackpad.
As for Windows 10X, we have seen a new type of Start menu and a slightly different taskbar, while in many other respects, it resembles the traditional Windows 10. The new operating system will support the Surface Pen that can be attached to the body of Surface Neo. It will support the execution of two apps, to be split between the two screens, and will support the entire Office suite.
Surface Neo will arrive over the next year. It’s one of the many announcements from Microsoft tonight along with Surface Pro 7, Surface Laptop 3 and Surface Pro X.
