Ericsson and Microsoft look together at the connected cars of the future
The integration between Ericsson’s Connected Vehicle Cloud and Microsoft’s Connected Vehicle Platform enables automotive manufacturers to accelerate the development of new connected car services globally.
More and more companies are joining efforts to accelerate the adoption of their platforms in the automotive world, with the aim of developing vehicles that are increasingly connected. Ericsson is implementing its Connected Vehicle Cloud on Microsoft’s Connected Vehicle Platform, which is based on the Microsoft Azure cloud platform.
This integrated solution allows automakers to develop and scale services for vehicles such as fleet management, over-the-air software updates, and related security services in a much simpler and faster way, reducing costs. Flexibility is ensured by modular design and multiple implementation options.
At present, Ericsson’s Connected Vehicle Cloud connects over 4 million vehicles in 180 countries around the world, representing approximately 10% of the connected vehicle market. The platform is designed to meet the growing demand for scalability and flexibility from vehicle manufacturers, with the ability to support any connected vehicle service.
Through this cloud platform, Ericsson offers a solution for the management of operations 24/7 on a global scale and from the management of the life cycle of connected vehicles, providing guaranteed Service Level Agreements (SLA). In this way, vehicle manufacturers can offer services connected with the guarantee of continuity in their supply, without having to implement an internal support structure.
Microsoft’s Connected Vehicle Platform (MCVP) allows automotive companies to accelerate the development of safe, comfortable and personalized connected driving experiences. It combines cloud infrastructure, edge technology, and AI and IoT services with a diverse partner ecosystem.
With MCVP, Microsoft offers a coherent platform connected to the cloud in all digital scenarios: on it is possible to create customer-oriented solutions, including onboard infotainment, advanced navigation, autonomous driving, telematic and forecasting services, and over-the-top updates -air (OTA). MCVP includes the hyper-scale, global availability, and regulatory compliance provided with Microsoft Azure.
Combining the efforts of the two companies ” will provide the market with a complete platform for connected vehicles. Our integrated solutions will help car manufacturers accelerate the implementation of their solutions for connected vehicles on a global scale and offer a better experience to drivers and passengers “, says Asa Tamsons, Ericsson’s Senior Vice President and Head of Business Area Technologies – New Businesses.
It will be at CES 2020 that the two companies will officially inaugurate the new partnership: the ultimate goal is to simplify the development of services for connected vehicles, to help car manufacturers focus on their customers’ needs and accelerate the creation of unique and tailor-made driving experiences for their vehicles.
