Nokia announces a partnership with Intel: Big plans for 5G
After the recent agreement with Marvell Technology, Nokia signs a second partnership with another industry giant: let’s talk about Intel, which will collaborate with the Finnish company for future solutions for 5G. We will start with the production of the ReefShark chipsets.
After the important change at the top with the announcement of the new CEO, the Finnish giant signs an ambitious partnership with Intel. The goal of the agreement is 5G, a technology on which both companies invest large resources to develop the most efficient infrastructures and solutions.
The release comes through the Reuters newspaper, a few hours after the confirmation of another partnership that involves the collaboration between Nokia Networks, a company dedicated to the development of network infrastructures, and the US manufacturer Marvell Technology.
Nokia and Intel: together for future 5G solutions
By signing the aforementioned agreement with Intel, Nokia sends another strong signal regarding the research and development of 5G networks.
The fifth-generation standard is one of the top priorities of the company, as we can deduce from the recent statements by Pekka Lundmark, future CEO of Nokia: ” I am confident that the company is well-positioned for the 5G era, and it is my goal to ensure to respond to commitments to customers, employees, shareholders, and all interested parties “.
The partnership with Intel will provide Nokia Networks with the necessary push to accelerate the production of new components for base stations and 5G infrastructures.
The ReefShark project will be the first to take advantage of recent collaborations between Nokia and other major manufacturers. Introduced in January 2018, this family of chipsets takes advantage of the new 3GPP 5G New Radio specifications to compensate for implementation costs and consumption, while improving network performance through a single chip.
To date, Nokia has encountered some problems developing ReefShark SoC but is confident of new partnerships to speed up the production process. ” Nokia is working with several partners to support the ReefShark family of chipsets, used in many elements of the base stations, ” says the statement from the Finnish giant.
Last year, Nokia already started a collaboration with Intel to introduce the second generation Xeon scalable processors in its Open Edge Data Center, opening new doors to 5G network architectures.
