Qualcomm announces Quick Charge 3+: Very fast and cheap charging
The new technology promises to bring the speed of Quick Charge 4+ with the use of cheaper cables and accessories than those supplied on the top of the range.
Qualcomm has just announced a new charging standard: Quick Charge 3+. The goal, with the new technology, is to offer the same speeds as Quick Charge 4 through the use of cheaper USB Type-A cables. The first smartphone to support the functionality is Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite Zoom, which supports both Quick Charge 3+ and Quick Charge 4+.
What are the benefits of the new technology? Quick Charge 3+ allows you to have a charge from 0 to 50% in just 15 minutes, making it 35% faster than previous technologies with a charge temperature of 9°C lower. All with the support of any USB Type-A to USB Type-C adapter with scalable voltage in steps of 20mV (cheaper to produce).
The idea behind Quick Charge 3+ is to offer low-cost, fast charging options to be integrated mainly on mid-range smartphones. The first chipsets to support it are Snapdragon 765 and 765G, which already support Quick Charge 4+, but it is likely that, over time, the quick charge typical of the best Qualcomm technologies will also arrive on low-cost devices of the entry-level segments. With Quick Charge 3, manufacturers can integrate cheap accessories with more advanced features than today, reducing the cost of production.
Quick Charge 3 is currently an exclusive technology of the Snapdragon 765 family of hardware platforms. Still, according to the company, it will arrive on other chipsets by the end of the year. It is also backward compatible with the previous generation Quick Charge devices, so devices that support previous versions can work with Quick Charge 3 accessories ” always offering the most flexible charging experience possible “.
