Acer Predator Helios 300 and 500: New gaming notebook of excellent features
Two new gaming laptops in the Acer price list: Predator Helios 500 is the top of the range without compromising performance, while Predator Helios 300 is the most affordable version, but still able to give excellent satisfaction.
During the Global Press Conference in New York, Acer presented two new gaming notebooks from the Predator Helios series, both designed to offer excellent performance and an attractive design, but not as excessive as in different models of the past.
Predator Helios 500 is the most powerful of the two, with support for Intel® Core™ processors up to the eighth-generation i9+ models, while the latter is called Predator Helios 300 Special Edition. Acer emphasizes several times that both models are suitable for immersion in virtual reality, as well as boasting advanced thermal management technologies and extremely fast connectivity solutions.
Acer Predator Helios 500 is equipped with unlocked Intel Core i9+ 8th Gen processors and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 graphics chip with overclock support. Of note is the combination on the SSD front that combines Intel Optane Memory with an already excellent SSD NVMePCIe. The supplied RAM memory can reach up to 64GB.
The display in the top of the range is a 4K UHD 17.3-inch, but there is also an FHD IPS panel that reaches refresh rates of 144Hz and compatibility with NViDIA G-Sync. Of particular importance is the presence of two Thunderbolt 3 ports which, together with an HDMI 2.0 port, support up to three external monitors. Two speakers and a subwoofer equipped with Acer TrueHarmony and Waves MAXXAudio technologies have the task of reproducing high-quality audio for those who do not want to use headphones.
All this power requires a proper dissipation system: Helios 500 uses two AeroBlade 3D metal fans designed by Acer, with five heatpipes designed to convey heat to the outside. The fan speed can be controlled and customized using the PredatorSense app.
The backlit RGB keyboard is always available, with four lighting zones and support up to 16.8 million colors. Anti-ghosting technology provides maximum control for executing complex commands and combos, which can be configured and played at the pressure of five dedicated programmable keys.
Acer Predator Helios 300 Special Edition is offered in elegant white livery and gold trim, with components a little less powerful than the 500, but that makes everything even more affordable on the price front. There is no 4K but ” only ” version with a 15.6-inch IPS FHD display and 144Hz refresh rate.
