24.2-megapixel APS-C sensor with 425 points phase-detection AF, native ISO range from 100 to 51,200, 4K movies: the new Sony a6300 looks like the solid evolution of its predecessor.
It was long overdue and has been at the center of many rumors, but today sees its official presentation: we are talking with heir Sony Alpha a6000, model that has been a huge success for Sony. Contrary to what you think the model does not make a leap of 100 in the nomenclature, but it’s called Sony Alpha α6300. The new camera is inserted into the groove of the previous model and focuses on compact dimensions and autofocus performance prominent.
They are well 425 points phase detection scattered, with wide frame coverage, the APS-C Exmor CMOS sensor with 24.2 megapixels. Working in tandem with the BIONZ processor X the sensor produces a range of native sensitivity ranging from 100 to 51,200 ISO. Focus 4D FOCUS relies not only on the phase detection sensors, but combines the incoming information from them with those of contrast-detect: the highest density of measuring points over the previous model should provide more precision and continuity in tracking AF, with a burst of up to 11 fps.
Interestingly the new 8 fps continuous live-view mode, which allows for a quick burst out of the dark time between shots and the other, thus enabling a tracking of the human subject in the electronic viewfinder (OLED 2,360,000 of points) or the simpler rear display.
The Sony Alpha a6300 point AF phase detection are also usable even when mounted optics A-Mount via adapter, a feature that for now there was only on mirrorless full frame of the Japanese manufacturer. Among other features are finely tuned sound, the ability to use autofocus even when you are watching a magnified portion of the image, the focus on the eye in AF-C continuous mode.
The Sony Alpha a6300 new sensor uses copper cabling to improve the efficiency and speed of reading: this fact, combined with new algorithms implemented in the Bionz X processor should ensure low noise and high quality even at high ISO. The machine can record 4K movies on the memory card: using a cutout at the Super 35mm format, a direct recording pixel by pixel – without binning – the machine acquires a video stream from about 20 megapixels – 6K – which then processes to get a 4K oversampled.
The acquisition format is the XAVC S up to 100 Mbps bit rate that’s also the Full HD movies, which can be recorded at up to 120fps, with AF tracking enabled. In addition, the camera can record with S-Log profile, for a dynamic range of up to 14 stops. Not to miss the opportunity to connect an external microphone for recordings.
Constructed of magnesium alloy it offers well 9 customizable buttons, with a choice of 64 functions. Also available now digital level, while between updates are also improved resistance to moisture and dust. In terms of connectivity, there are Wi-Fi and NFC for remote control smartphones and tablets.
The new Sony Alpha a6300 will be available from next March at a price of $998 for the body only version and $1,148 with optical SELP1650 16-50mm kit.
