App Store, increased the limit of 200 MB for apps under cellular network
Apple has extended the download limit on the App Store via cellular network: from 150MB, it goes to 200MB, a limit that in our opinion still remains anachronistic.
Apple has just increased the download limit on the App Store in the presence of a cellular network: first, it was 150MB and from May 31st it was extended to 200MB. This means that iPhone and iPad users can download single apps whose download has a weight of up to 200MB on 3G or 4G networks, while for larger apps, you will have to rely on Wi-Fi.
To notice the novelty in origin was the site 9To5Mac, that has pointed out as today the limit of download on the cellular network can represent in several occasions a meaningless restriction: the purpose is to prevent accidental downloads especially to the users that have a plan to consumption or a plan with a limited amount of Internet traffic.
The fact is that the limit cannot be deactivated by those who have a flat plan or large quantities of GB: in fact, even these users do not have the possibility to download apps larger than 200MB.
The last increase in the data download limit from the App Store on a cellular network occurred in September 2017, when it had become 150MB, since then the availability of GB in cellular network plans has increased considerably and the limit of 200MB to 2019 forwarded can be defined as anachronistic. It must be said that there are not many apps on the App Store that exceed this threshold, except of course for heavier video games.
However, developers now have more room for updates and other types of in-app downloads managed via the App Store even if, we repeat, such a limit should at least be manageable by the user himself.
