Autonomous robotic patrol cars arriving in the city of Dubai
Self-guided mini-patrols called O-R3 will be deployed from the end of 2017 in the city of Dubai to improve the quality of life of citizens.
In Dubai, there is no shortage of money to invest, and some of this is being lent to the city’s evolution in technological terms. Several technologies are tested in the city of the United Arab Emirates, and there is undoubtedly a great deal of attention in robotics and artificial intelligence to improve security within the city boundaries.
If the robot-cop was primarily used to help tourists and to report any breaches quickly, the new self-guided patrols could circulate more quickly and carry out different moving operations. The size of the vehicles is quite compact, so they can both walk along the pedestrian paths in a completely autonomous way. Integrated in these cars, we find a camera system capable of scanning the pedestrian faces.
The biometric data collected is compared to those in a database that contains the faces of known and wanted criminals, with the possibility of alerting the police command center if there is a need for more in-depth controls.
The robot works in the company of a drone that can be sent in flight to observe a larger area from a privileged position to those who are possibly engaging in criminal activity. If the batteries need it, the bot can also move to a charging station in this case in a completely autonomous way.
The benefits of this solution are several: the Dubai police can be leverage technology to have more ” eyes ” within the perimeter of the city and provide greater security for their citizens. Robotic patrols have no time and time limits, and they do not have a family to go to at the end of the turn.
They can do much longer paths than traditional patrols, without stopping, and can offer ” flesh and bone ” units an important support for analyzing what is happening in the territory and on the recognition of the most wanted or dangerous exponents.
