Browser War: Opera 51 is 38% faster than Firefox Quantum.
The browser war continues unabated, with the new version of Opera that focuses on speed comparing itself with Firefox Quantum.
Opera 51 has been released on the stable channel with the main novelty that resides under the body: the new version should indeed improve in the speed of navigation, and also introduces a new feature that allows you to quickly return to the top of the page, new import options and export of favorites, and much more. Recall that Opera does not use a proprietary rendering engine, but relies on the usual Chromium (here in version 64).
Opera 51 is now compiled on Windows using Clang, and as a result the browser has gained several percentage points in benchmark tests. On Speedometer 2.0, for example, the Opera engineers managed to have a 38% advantage over Firefox 58 using an HP Specter with Windows 10. This is a considerable achievement if we consider all the efforts made by the competing technicians at the base of the project Quantum to speed up the browser.
Among the innovations of Opera 51, we also find the ability to press the top tab of the screen to move to the top of the web page, and with another click you return to the previous page. On the favorites screen, in an expandable menu, new keys have been added to import and export favorites. The procedures can also be improved through the Easy Setup menu on the start page.
Among the novelties, we also find two collapsible lists on the right side of the tab bar to access the open or recently closed tabs. The user can also mark individual tabs so that they are opened in a new session after the browser has been closed. Opera has added a new animation at the start of private browsing mode, and there is a new ” back to tab ” button to bring a pop-up video back to its source tab.
Finally, Opera 51 also introduces the possibility of restoring all browser settings in a simplified manner, together with a greater simplification of backup and restore procedures. The new browser is already available for download on Windows, MacOS and Linux. More information can be found on the official website of the company.
