Canon G1 X Mark III: Now the compact has a 24-megapixel APS-C Dual Pixel AF sensor
Canon also changes its compact PowerShot G1 X Mark III, which now focuses on a 24-megapixel APS-C sensor with Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology for phase-detection focusing: integrates a non-interchangeable zoom lens from 24-72mm equivalent, with aperture of F2.8-5.6 diaphragm.
For some time, Canon has definitely changed its product range non-reflex: first seen by the Japanese company only as a side dish to its main course, they are taking an increasingly important role within the range, following the growing appreciation of public.
The renewal of the compact Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark III goes in this direction and brings with it innumerable technical innovations. It starts from the sensor, which is now a real APS-C (22.3 x 14.9 mm), compared to the previous format of 18.7mmx12.5mm, and is the same that equips products such as Canon EOS 77D and EOS M5. So we have 24 megapixel resolution and Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology for focusing phase detection on each photosite. Equal also the beating heart, the Digic 7 processor.
The camera integrates a non-interchangeable 24-72mm zoom lens, with aperture of F2.8-5.6 aperture, all in a body weighing 400 grams. Equipped with a 2.36 million pixel OLED electronic viewfinder and 3″ articulated touchscreen display, it is practically an EOS M5 with a fixed lens. The sensitivity can move between the values of 100 and 25,600 ISO, while the burst comes to 7 and 9 fps, respectively with active or fixed auto-focus on the first frame.
In the video, we find support for Full HD 1080p video at 60 fps.The camera is stabilized with a 5-axis system. In connectivity level we find support for Wi-Fi, NFC and Bluetooth.
This is a product that for Canon fits in the prosumer range, and the price of $1,299 is the confirmation. A product that thanks to the APS-C sensor could attract more looks of interest than the two previous editions, which were still able to churn out images of higher quality than the compact ones with smaller sensors, as we told you in our review.
For reasons of compactness Canon has had to compromise on the front of the optics, which compared to the previous model, which sported a 24-120mm F2.0-3.9, is back closer to the results of the first model, with 28-112mm F2 optics .8-5.8.
The integration of the electronic viewfinder is instead of a point in favor of the new model. Thanks to the integration of gaskets in critical points, the machine is declared resistant to dust and humidity.
