Canon Powershot G3 X: 1-inch sensor and 25x optical 24-600mm
Today comes the announcement of superzoom with sensor 1″ Canon Powershot G3 X, born to undermine the success of products such as Sony RX10 and Panasonic FZ1000, thanks to 25x optics with 24-600 mm equivalent focal.
With Powershot G7 X , Canon decided to enter the arena with the compact sensor 1″, which revolutionized the sector by about 3 years now the view of the ‘premium’ products where previously excelled (like the Canon PowerShot G thereof ) with sensors in size from 1/1.7″.

In comparison with the two, Canon has decided to play those who have it longer (zoom), even if he had to sacrifice anything in terms of a brightness lens: Sony RX10 has indeed a 24-200mm equivalent lens F2.8 constant, Panasonic 25-400mm FZ1000 F2.8-4, while the new Canon Powershot G3 X provides optical 24-600mm F2.8-5.6, with 25x zoom.
Given the long-range optics Canon has opted for a double system of stabilization, optical and digital, to avoid the rough working on 5 axes. The sensor is a CMOS high sensitivity in size from 1″ credited with 20.2 megapixels (probably the same as G7 X and RX100 III), with a sensitivity range between ISO 125 and 12,800, thanks to the image processor DIGIC 6.
The autofocus leverages 31 points in contrast detection scattered on the sensor. The burst (with focus on the first frame) reaches 5.9 frames per second. From the point of view, we have video support Full HD movies 24, 30 and 60p, but especially both external microphone jack is for headphones, with the ability to record video stream on external devices via the HDMI port.
The machine is resistant to dust and splashes like the Canon EOS 70D, thanks to construction and cured in the presence of different seals.
