Chrome OS, here’s the new touch-based interface
That appearance on the Chrome OS ” Canary ” version is a heavy redrawing, which projects the operating system even more to touch screen devices.
Google has continued to modify, improve and optimize Chrome OS for the ever-widespread touch screen, and a new ” discovered ” video by Engadget shows that great new features are currently underway.
Within a few seconds of shooting, you can see a redesigned launcher for the operating system that approaches slightly Android, with a dedicated app drawer and a search bar for both online and local content, just like on the green robotic.
These new elements, along with a user-set dock with main applications, are positioned just above the traditional taskbar, so that the most user-oriented user interface with the mouse and keyboard is not totally twisted.
The same UI will also be used with touch screen devices: by tapping the bar you will start a search, while performing a swipe up will appear a grid with all installed apps.
The new redesigned desktop is already available in the Chrome OS Canary Channel, which is the most unstable among public ones due to the embryonic development state of the latest novelties.
Anyone can then use or try the new graphical interface doing all the risks associated with the use of an unsecure or perfectly stable version of an operating system. In other words, we do not recommend it on computers used as mains.
However, the new user interface may soon arrive on Chrome OS, and probably represents the biggest change in the operating system chart since its inception in terms of touch screen support.
Last year, the company had added a ” hybrid ” mode that added space between the keys so that they could be reached more easily with their fingers, but the approach set to the traditional input systems remained clear.
It is clear that the effort to create a new desktop that is even more focused on the touch screen emphasizes Google’s willingness to make Chrome OS a more modern operating system that is geared to today’s IT needs. With these innovations, Chrome OS is also more consistent with the recent arrival of support for Android apps, which are designed with the touch screen in mind.
