Corsair M55 RGB PRO is a gaming mouse with ambidextrous design
We tried the new Corsair mouse, which is characterized by its completely ambidextrous design with a mirrored shape on both sides even for the side buttons.
This mouse presented by Corsair in June focuses on the handle. First of all, for its ambidextrous design with mirrored side buttons, as well as for the shapes. And then because it adapts to any type of player, both to those who prefer the grip with the whole palm, both for the so-called claw-grip players or for those who grip with just their fingers. The mouse is also equipped with 8 fully programmable buttons through the iCue software that Corsair device owners now know very well.
The latter allows you to configure two distinct backlight zones and the sensitivity of the sensor from a minimum of 200 dpi to a maximum of 12,400 dpi with intermediate steps of 200 dpi. The default setting is the 800 dpi rectory, while four other profiles are pre-configured from 1500, 3000, 6000 and 9000 dpi.
Corsair M55 RGB PRO uses the widespread PixArt PAW3327 sensor, which reports to the central system the position of the mouse with a speed of 220 inches per second and an acceleration of 50G.
The fact that the mouse restores its position to the system with such a tight cadence can be valuable for eSport players, who perform very fast in-game movements, but also in terms of precision and accuracy of movement reproduction.
Another distinctive feature is the peripheral weight of only 86 grams. We are noticing the trend in the recent period of making ever lighter mice available to players, and Corsair has decided with M55 RGB PRO not to depart from this setting.
Personally, we like a lot, because a lightweight mouse reduces clutter and increases agility, making the gaming experience more comfortable and fueling the feeling that the mouse is an extension of the player’s hand.
Not only comfort in long prolonged gaming sessions but also in the long run, given that thanks to its Omron switches, Corsair M55 RGB PRO turns out to be a very resistant solution in time, also giving the sensation of pressure strength. As for the layout of the buttons, as we said we have two pairs of side buttons for each side.
By default, the mouse has been configured so that the player can switch from one setting to the other between left and right handed, thus disabling each of the two pairs of buttons. It may be inconvenient, for example: to have two buttons on the opposite side because it can cause accidental pressures in conjunction with sudden movements. Fortunately, the superfluous buttons can be disabled, without assigning you any function.
At the same time, the new Corsair mouse is structured in such a way that it works without software. It is recognized immediately by Windows, and the transition between right-handed and left-handed settings can be done by holding down the side buttons of the corresponding side for five seconds.
The LED indicating the enabled profile will begin to flash red to indicate that the setting change has been registered. All this makes the peripheral, particularly suitable for the user who needs to change settings frequently.
The software allows you to make more in-depth adjustments, such as the assignment of the 8 buttons and the type of backlight combined with the logo and the dpi indicator. Within the same interface, the user can verify the operation of any Corsair device, synchronize the lighting effects with each other and manage the macros.
The latter, in particular, is a very simple operation to perform, allowing the association of complex and more or less long press sequences to one of the 8 mouse buttons. In addition to macros, buttons can also be combined with text strings, multimedia controls, links, profile changes, application launches, and much more.
The user can also configure double macros, associating the first with the pressure of a certain button and the second to be activated when the button is released. The software also allows you to adjust the sensitivity of the mouse separately between the x axis and the y axis.
And also the polling rate is configurable, that is the frequency of communications between mouse and central system, with available options: 1000Hz / 1ms, 500Hz / 2ms, 250Hz / 4ms and 125Hz / 8ms. Features like these once again confirm the versatility of the iCue software, within which the most committed player can find the settings he wants to perfectly adjust his performance within the game.
The button to switch from one dpi profile to another is, instead, placed right in the center of the device, in a comfortable space because it is sufficiently distanced from any other button and, in particular, from the two main ones. The various profiles are associated with a specific color, which is displayed in the backlight area at the top of the body.
Corsair M55 RGB PRO confirms the quality found in recent Corsair peripherals. We like it for its extremely low weight, which makes it versatile and allows a very agile type of gaming, and for the quality of the materials, with a rough surface that makes the peripheral pleasant to the touch and very little slippery.
The ambidextrous design is certainly another ” pro ” for users looking for this type of setting, but at the same time it can lend itself to a slight criticism, given that the side buttons may be subject to accidental pressure depending on the type of arrangement of the fingers on the mouse.
Consider, finally, that the Corsair M55 RGB PRO, while reproducing the same quality level as the other Corsair mice in almost all the components, costs slightly less than the ” brothers “.
