The Dell Venue 8 Pro comes as a tablet dedicated to the productivity of small size, with a diagonal of 8″ screen. In this review, we analyze the main characteristics of the product and the operating system. With this tablet, you can use Windows 8.1, Microsoft Office, and any other desktop app in mobility. But what is the experience of using this device? And which is intended for users?
Dell Venue 8 Pro – Screen
Let’s start off talking about the HD screen, which is an IPS WXGA resolution with 1,280 x 800 px. The pixel density is not very high (approaching you can see the grid), and the colors are fairly balanced (but not too full).
The size of 8″ for the tablet is very convenient and easy to handle, and prefer than 10 inches; The 16:9 format is convenient for watching videos, but for all other applications prefer the 4:3 format. Using the desktop mode with a native resolution you will immediately notice that the graphics are very small, and to be precise it is better to use a pen; the problem does not arise with the app instead meter.
Dell Venue 8 Pro – Design
The design is simple and clean on the back we have a black rubberized shell, with a rough finish. Aesthetically, I liked it enough especially because it gave me a feeling of solidity and strength. The rubberized back makes it easier to grasp and harder to scratch. The tablet is very lightweight (395 g) and is handled easily.
Dell Venue 8 Pro – Operating System
The operating system is Windows 8.1 (full version), which allows both the use of the meter mode with the apps downloaded from the store, both the desktop mode. In desktop mode, you can run virtually all programs compatible with Windows 8, and this is a big advantage.
Obviously, the desktop software is not optimized for the touchscreen interface and then use them is a bit clunky. The version 8.1 includes several enhancements that make a good Windows 8 OS for tablets, although I am opposed to the idea of the OS suitable for all devices. In the box, you’ll also find a license for Office Home
Dell Venue 8 Pro – Hardware
The tablet is equipped with a 5 MPx rear camera and a 1.2 MPx rear. The picture quality is quite poor, but the cameras are useful in various situations, such as video calls. To everything, there is to move the Z3740D an Intel Atom processor with 2 MB cache, 1.8 GHz quad-core processor, accompanied by an Intel HD graphics and 2 GB of RAM.
This combination makes the OS very smooth and responsive, and the opening of programs and the app is really fast. The tablet is available in two memory sizes: 32 and 64 GB, expandable with microSD up to 128 GB. The battery is 4830 mAh, and provides 8-10 hours of heavy usage.
The start button is placed on the top edge, and frankly, I would have preferred it if it had been put on the front. Another thing that I did not like is the behavior of the light sensor, which keeps it very low and that the dark even more as soon as you put your finger for a moment on the sensor. Hopefully, Dell best algorithm with a software updates.
Dell Venue 8 Pro – The tablet is compact, manoeuvrable and powerful at the same time. Windows 8.1 with desktop app is a great advantage for many pro users, although the use of these apps is not easy with the touchscreen. Excellent value for money.
