Presented by Dell new 2-in-1 high-end XPS 12, which integrates both PC and tablet. Detachable keyboard backlit screen resolution up to 4K, Skylake and Intel SSDs in all models are some of the features.
For some time, we are seeing a further fragmentation of the laptop market, with solutions that extend the capabilities of much of the dear old portable as it is commonly understood. Obvious examples are the models 2 in 1, in which the display can be detached and used as a tablet complete with a stylus. There are very cheap but also decidedly high-end, where the components are everything but compromise.
Think of the models Surface from Microsoft or the newly introduced Surface Book, to make clear examples. In the same area is to operate the Dell XPS 12, widely anticipated to be unofficial and that at this very hour earns the status of official. The display has a diagonal of 12.5 inches, which boasts 1,920×1,080 pixels in the basic version, up to the 4K.
Under the shell there is the latest production of Intel Core family Skylake M, combined with an amount of RAM that can be up to 8 GB. In terms of storage Dell chooses only SSDs, with capacities of 128 GB or 256 GB. The keyboard is backlit in all configurations, but it is also worth mentioning the design characterized by clean lines and minimal.
The availability in the USA is given for the beginning of November, with the base model (128 GB SDD, panel 1,920×1,080 pixels, 4 GB RAM) that will cost $999. Going up we find the first configuration panel 4K to $1,299, which also boasts the Core m5, 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB SSD. No price is to the top of the range, which has only a basic SSD’s capacity.
