DJI FPV: The ecosystem for racing drone pilots
Racing with drones is a reality that is slowly expanding globally. The Chinese manufacturer has announced the new DJI FPV ecosystem capable of enclosing all the useful tools in a single package.
DJI FPV is the name chosen by the Chinese manufacturer for the racing drone ecosystem. It is still a little-known and practiced discipline, worldwide tournaments and competing with professional riders are spreading more and more.
One of the parts of which DJI FPV is composed is the system with a first-person view (not the first of its kind) that allows you to immerse yourself in the action as if you were on board the racing drone. There is also an integrated unit to manage the competition drone, a remote control and a camera. It is a complete package ” ready for the track “.
DJI FPV: The components of the competition kit
According to DJI, with the new DJI FPV ecosystem, you will have high-definition images, but also very low latency (28 ms) and an improved long distance control (up to 700 meters, CE standards and 4 kilometers for the FCC). For when the competitions will include more than one competitor at a time, the anti-interference system will also be crucial. For example: you can get up to eight drivers simultaneously without problems.
The air unit to be connected to the drone uses the DJI HDL FPV transmission with bilateral data communication. To improve performance in the race, the Focus mode aims to acquire the center of the image first, giving the rider an advantage even when the signal is weak.
We could not miss the viewer called DJI FPV Goggles with the integrated video recorder capable of reproducing 720p/60fps images while the video can be saved at 720p/120fps (which can be saved on microSD).
As far as the radio control is concerned, it is designed to be configurable and allows you to change the settings on the remote control that will be updated in real time in the system.
The DJI FPV camera allows you to shoot in Racing mode by highlighting objects on the track (doors, passages) or in Standard mode that preserves details and tones or in LED mode for dimly lit areas increasing saturation and reducing noise. The lens is a 150° ultra-wide angle type.
The system will be available from mid-August 2019 in two different versions: one is called DJI FPV Fly More Combo, which has a price of $999 with a DJI FPV Goggles viewer, the air unit, the FPV camera and the FPV radio control as well as all the cables and antennas.
Instead, the DJI FPV Experience Combo version has a more affordable price of $879 and is composed of DJI FPV Goggles, 2 FPV camera units and the air unit with all the cables and antennas needed while the remote control is missing.
