Dodocool Active Noise Cancelling Headphone: Low Cost and Good Quality

Wireless music listening solutions are becoming increasingly popular in recent years. The advantages of this type of products are obvious, both in terms of aesthetics and functionality: by eliminating almost all cables, if not for charging or for ” sedentary ” listening, there are no further encumbrances to the full advantage of the transportability.

In addition, in recent years the latest versions of the Bluetooth protocol and the support of the most advanced audio encoding systems have allowed minimum losses in the quality of the wireless transported sound stream.

Wireless headphones have a higher cost than traditional wired ones, but several Chinese brands now offer rather to convince models with an excellent quality / price ratio. An example? Dodocool Bluetooth headphones with active noise cancellation from the cost less than $100.

By opening the dodocool box, we were particularly surprised by the attention to detail used: the headphones are supplied with a semi-rigid case with a well-finished apparently pretty resistant finish and zip closure. The case allows you to carry the headphones in all circumstances without the risk of damaging them, and inside it contains a small pocket to always carry with it various accessories, such as cables for charging or 3.5mm jack for cable connection.

Inside, the case is rather rigid, with dimensions cut to size to hold the headphones, if obviously folded. The dodocool headphone have a folding structure, with the mechanical part that appeared quite solid during our tests. A sharp and firm sound informs us of the achievement of each end.

Equipment, design and materials

In terms of materials, the dodocool headphones seemed adequate for the price at which they are sold: valuable or highly sought-after materials are not used, but the padding of the bow is comfortable and the overall weight is not too exaggerated despite the large size of the two pavilions.

Here we find the letters R and L which mark the two channels and indicate which one goes to the right and to the left. There is so much plastic on this model, this is undeniable, but in the system that allows you to fold the headphones on itself is used a more reassuring metal structure that seems particularly valid. The bow can be increased or decreased in size through two slides that allow a smooth movement, without jerks, for precise positioning to the millimeter.

The right-hand pavilion has three keys, one to make calls or to give the ok, and the other two to manage the listening volume, and there is also a two-color, red and blue status LED. On the opposite side there is a single selector that allows activating or deactivating the active noise suppression system: in this case too, activation is signaled with the addition of a further LED (positioned slightly above) in blue color.

In the same pavilion on the right, we also find the micro-USB port for charging and the 3.5 mm jack to use headphones with the traditional cable, and not via wireless. On the other hand, the left-hand cap appears to be stripped, with the balance of the weights which seemed to us to be optimal and perfectly symmetrical between the parts. But how do the Dodocool headphoneare finally play?

Audio quality and autonomy

The headphones are offered at a higher list price compared to the Chinese products of low quality, and are aimed at opposing more expensive systems of the most famous manufacturers, addressing to the less demanding user in terms of finishes and virtuosities of various kinds.

During our listening, performed with different types of music ranging from the Eagles to the Massive Attack, passing through ” audiophile ” test albums like The Sheffield Drum & Track Record, we listened to a sound quality certainly of good quality.

The frequencies reproduced are well balanced, with a light and pleasant loudness effect with accentuated highs, but not scratchy, and low tones slightly in evidence. The voices, above all the male ones, are only a little backward due to a slight dominance of the most extreme frequencies of the sound spectrum.

The Dodocool headphoneare quite balanced if we consider the list price, well below 100 euros, offering a virtual stage sufficiently wide with the various instruments well arranged within the sound scene. They are suitable for any type of music, without obvious predilections, but without excelling in the most complex genres to be reproduced (classical music for example).

During our tests, we detected a slight buzz activating Bluetooth, which disappears by connecting the product via cable. Chapter active noise suppression: it excludes some frequencies using the built-in microphone and reduces the sounds coming from the outside, but it does not completely flatten them by introducing further rustling during the quieter scenes. We admit that we preferred to disable this function during our tests.

The autonomy is in any case quite high, naturally much higher than any type of wireless headset: we did not have any need to charge the headphones on our days of use. Even the microphone behaved well during calls, with our interlocutors who did not complain about the sound quality or any interference or annoying background noise.

Price and final considerations

The Dodocool Active Noise Cancelling Headphone can be found on Amazon, even if their availability is quite intermittent. At the time of writing we are on Amazon at a price of $75.99, which is in our opinion an attractive price in relation to the quality of the product and its sound output.

Too bad only for the bad management of buzzing during music listening, do not reach the volume of the music source and are not audible in the presence of an active sound stream. They can be a bit of a nuisance to the attentive listener, but it is clear that those looking for a product for audiophiles are willing to spend a lot more and turn to more noble products.
