Here is Falkon 3.0.0, The new official KDE browser
Falkon sees the light, leaving behind the previous skin known as QupZilla. The new official browser of KDE is born, which continues its evolution among the desktop environments for Linux.
KDE, a historic desktop environment born in the Linux context, continues its evolution and does so with a new browser: Falkon 3.0.0. The browser, formerly known as QupZilla, replaces other software such as Konqueror and Rekonq and becomes the reference browser for the environment.
Compared to QupZilla there are no substantial differences or new features worthy of note for the common user, but what is important to remark is the fact that the browser officially becomes part of the collection of KDE applications. This could lead to faster software development, resulting in improvements and greater freedom of choice for the user.
Each desktop environment in the Linux world makes a history of itself and tends to create its own suite of programs that integrate closely with the environment itself; this also depends on the use of different technologies (for example, GTK and Qt) for the creation of connected environments and software.
Although the most widespread browsers remain those used on other platforms (Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Vivaldi, etc.), it is important to note that in the Linux world, there is more space for alternative projects that give more choice to the user, although not always offering solutions comparable in all respects to the biggest names.
Falkon is already available as a source code and as a Flatpak or Snap package; availability for various distributions depends on the repositories themselves or maintainers. Availability for Windows and macOS is expected in the coming weeks. The release of Falkon 3.0.0 also corresponds with the farewell to QupZilla, which will see a last release before the final abandonment.
