Firefox is finally a 64-bit Windows PC

The Mozilla browser is the latest to present a 64-bit version of Windows between the solutions offered by the biggest names in the industry.

With version 43, Mozilla Firefox is now available in a 64-bit version of Windows. The company did not give much attention to the new feature of the web browser, but it is perhaps the most significant difference from previous versions of the software. Firefox 43 was released as a preview about 9 months ago and following the usual route plan Mozilla, the official debut was expected in May.

The most obvious advantage of a 64-bit software on a 64-bit operating system is that it can use more than 4GB of RAM. This translates, in the case of a web browser such as Firefox, the ability to keep it running more of the tab, perform web-app as advanced three-dimensional games, and generally have fewer restrictions in terms of system memory. The 64-bit also have a considerable impact also on the front lines of performance and safety, although it is not always guaranteed compatibility with plug-in 32-bit.

With Firefox 43, Mozilla reaches larger rivals in the category. Among the five major browsers, Firefox remained the only missing a 64-bit variant. Microsoft provides this capability since 2006 on its Internet Explorer, Apple Safari since 2009. Among the most recent to support 64-bit find with Google Chrome, with the first final version released in August 2014, and even Opera has a 64 bit.

The road to the 64-bit Windows has not been easy for the Mozilla browser. Firefox has long 64-bit versions of OS X and Linux, and the developer abandoned development work on Windows in November 2012, by restarting them the following month. It’s been a few years since then, and only with the latest version, we can finally use Firefox also a 64-bit Windows.

Firefox 43 are also other innovations such as updating of the Tracking Protection feature, with which the user cannot only prevent the loading of banners or elements for tracking data, but also photos, videos and other generic content of the page. On Android, the company introduced the indicator on the audio tab, already present on the desktop.
