Firefox, new revolutionized version coming soon for Android: how to try it now
Mozilla has unveiled a completely revolutionized version of its mobile browser, both in terms of graphics and in terms of the engine for web pages.
Mozilla has just announced Firefox Preview, a new-generation browser designed for the Android operating system. The new software is already available for download (you can download it directly from Google Play Store), but only as a preview as the company does not yet consider it stable enough. It is one of the biggest updates that the browser has ever faced, at least in its mobile form, with the promise of much higher performance than previous versions.
With Firefox Preview, Mozilla will start using the GeckoView engine, which should offer performance similar to those of Google Blink (used on Chrome, for example) giving Mozilla total independence on development.
According to the tests carried out by the company, Firefox Preview can reach up to double the performance compared to the current versions of Firefox for Android, and we can confirm that – based on our very first tests with a OnePlus 7 Pro – the new browser promises very well indeed in terms of performance.
In addition to a freer approach, Firefox Preview introduces a new minimalist look with a clean main screen based on search history. The navigation bar is now at the bottom of the screen, to facilitate one-handed use. This latest novelty is designed especially for devices with large screens, but can also be useful for compact smartphones. This simplifies access not only to the address bar, but also to sharing options and bookmarks.
There will be big news also in terms of privacy and security, also the result of the company tests performed with Firefox Focus. As revealed by internal investigations browser users prefer to have a good level of privacy from the first start, and for this reason tracking, protection is now, with Firefox Preview, active by default. All this also offers advantages in terms of performance: by blocking the more invasive ad trackers, connections and processors are relieved of some additional load.
There are also the Collections, which allow you to group and organize multiple websites in a single container that will be available on the browser’s Home so as to allow faster access in the future. The arrival of Firefox Preview stops the development work on Firefox Focus to allow the company to focus on the new model and offer the best user experience when it is available in the final version.
