Fitbit Ionic is the new Fitbit smartwatch, along with the Flyer earphones.
Fitbit announces its first smartwatch: it is Fitbit Ionic which also offers saturation monitoring and the ability to make contactless payments. Also comes the Flyer earphones that allow you to listen to music through the smartwatch without having to use the phone.
With just a few days in advance of the IFA in Berlin, Fitbit today officially announces three novelties for its product catalog, one of which is the long-awaited smartwatch for which some information was circulating a few months ago and even in recent weeks by some ” deep throat “.
Here is Fitbit Ionic, the first smartwatch of the American company that focuses on new training modes, a more precise sensor park with new features, the ability to trace water activities and payment capabilities. ”
With Fitbit Ionic, we will offer what consumers have not yet seen in a smartwatch – a health and fitness platform that combines the power of personalization with our latest technology, unlocking opportunities for unprecedented physical activity tracking, ” commented James Park, CEO and founder of Fitbit.
The new smartwatch comes with a GPS module with GLONASS technology to trace the user’s movements during his workouts without having to bring the smartphone next.
Fitbit Ionic is also equipped with a new real-time 24/7 real-time heart rate monitor that offers more precision and also combines a new sensor for tracking oxygen saturation, especially useful for those who suffer from episodes of nighttime apnea.
New features include ” Personal Trainer with Fitbit Coach ” : this is a system that adjusts the intensity of the workouts based on the user’s performance so that you can adopt a progressive training plan that is always aligned with the physical condition. The new smartwatch is also waterproof up to 50 meters so that it can also be used for pool training sessions.
Among the less ” fitness ” features, but certainly interesting is the new Fitbit Pay service that will allow you to make payments directly with the smartwatch wherever contactless payments are accepted. The service will soon be available in collaboration with ANZ, Banco Santander, Bank of America, Capital One, HSBC, KBC Bank Ireland, OCBC Bank, Royal Bank of Canada, UOB and US Bank, with additional banks and markets added in the future.
The Ionic smartwatch is based on Fitbit OS, the new operating system that the company promises will be regularly upgraded to offer the public new features and services. The first of these is App Gallery, which offers a number of fitness and general-purpose apps specifically developed for smartwatch so that they can be downloaded and installed directly on it without having to switch from smartphone.
A range of partner apps including Pandora, Starbucks, Strava and AccuWeather will also be available when launching, while Adidas All Day, Flipboard, GAME GOLF, Nest and Surfline releases will be available in the future.
Applications can be developed through the SDK that contains the web-based Fitbit Studio development environment starting next September. It’s interesting to note that through FitBit Studio, you will also be able to create personal apps, or for a circle of friends, without necessarily having to make them available through App Gallery.
For the new Ionic, Fitbit declares an operating autonomy of more than 4 days, with GPS or active music playback up to 10 hours. The display offers up to 1000 nit brightness.
In addition to the new smartwatch, Fitbit has also announced Fitbit Flyer, new wireless headsets specially designed for sports enthusiasts and used in conjunction with the new Ionic so you can listen to music (but also the suggestions of the ” personal trainer ” digital ” ) without the use of the smartphone. Headsets can also be connected to two devices at the same time, so you can also manage voice callers on your phone.
Fitbit Ionic is available pre-installed on the Fitbit site already today and will be available on the market in October. Available in three livery, the price is $299. Even the Fitbit Flyer earphones are available in preorder today and on the market as of October. The price in this case is $129.
