From Gigabyte new SSD M.2 NVMe 128GB, 256GB and 512GB
News in Gigabyte home on the SSD front, with the presentation of models made with M.2 form factor and NVMe protocol, with denominations between 128GB and 512GB. We try to understand something more about this series.
Techpowerup talks about it and the news sounds in some ways curious, as we are used to combining the Gigabyte brand with other types of products compared to SSD. For some time and it is known. It is possible to realize at home its own line of SSD drawing on the outside for what concerns 100% of the necessary components. In short, every company can, at least in theory, market its own line of SSD by turning to the right partners.
So it must have made Gigabyte, and it is not a first, having already in the list a SATA 6Gbps series. In these days, it is the turn of the SSD M.2 with the NVMe protocol, of which we know very little already starting from the commercial name that, is not clear. But we know that the interface, not at all obvious in the M.2 slot, is of type PCIe Gen3 x2.
Not the most performing x4, of course, but surely these SSD go beyond the bottleneck of the SATA 6Gbps. Gigabyte declares 1200MB/s read and 800MB/s write for the 256GB model, which descend to 1100MB/s read and write 500MB/s for the 128GB unit.
Not the flashes, of course, but better than the normal SATA SSD. The information on the 512GB is missing because the presentation is provided later. We know then that the warranty will be 3 years, while a question arises among fans: who buys Gigabyte SSD?
The move must be designed not only with eyes on our market but on something larger. Gigabyte will certainly place several of these SSD at home, perhaps even with some bundles paired with motherboards. The thought, in short, does not necessarily have to go to our shelves.
