Fujitsu presents FI-800R, an ultra-compact front Desk Scanner
The Fujitsu Fi-800R is an ultra-compact, fast scanner that can also acquire thick documents, such as identity cards and passports, also extracting metadata. It is designed to simplify and speed up the work of the front desk.
Fujitsu PFU has enriched the fi scanner range with the FI-800R, the most compact model in the series. This is a particularly compact device, intended for front desk operations, particularly in areas such as the hospitality sector, the hospital sector, banking offices.
Advanced document scanning
The Fujitsu FI-800R is a roller scanner that is compact enough not to take up too much space so that it can be easily installed even in very small desks. It can acquire up to 40 pages per minute in color, even on the reverse side, but what sets it apart is the simplicity with which it can acquire documents such as passports and identity cards, even plastic ones.
It will be enough to place them on the front door and in a few seconds the scan will be carried out, attaching to the photo a series of metadata relating to the documents such as document number, name, date of birth, nationality and so on.
These can be used both to generate the name of the file (for example: by using the name and surname obtained from the document), and to be able to immediately integrate the information into its own systems, without having to go and copy it by hand: along with the scanning of the document, an Excel file will be generated with the information extracted from the MRZ, the Machine Readable Zone, that unique code that identifies each individual identity document.
A particularly useful function for those dealing with the public and want to speed up the work flow with more efficient procedures and less prone to human error.
It never gets jammed
Fujitsu has paid a lot of attention to the paper transport system, aiming to create a device that was reliable, as well as fast. The mechanism for feeding the sheets is called dual path: the thinner sheets, let us think of the common A4, can be loaded from above (up to 20 at a time) and after being acquired, they will always come out from above, even being aligned correctly if they were badly supported.
In the case of thick documents, such as passports, electronic identity cards, the front door must be used, through which sheets with a maximum thickness of 5 mm can be acquired.
A software up to par
Along with the scanner, software is provided that is up to the task, PaperStream Capture, which also takes care of retouching images automatically to ensure the readability of every part of the document. It also supports an advanced OCR that in addition to recognizing text very effectively is also able to reproduce editable documents, both Word and PowerPoint, and Excel: transforming a printed table into a spreadsheet is a job that takes only a few moments.
The software is advanced enough to handle the scans of folded A3 sheets: both faces will be scanned, and the original image will be automatically reconstructed alongside the two scans.
The interface is USB 3.2 and ethernet or wi-fi are not supported at the moment. A choice that may seem strange, but that is justified by the fact that it is not a departmental scanner, to be shared among more colleagues in the office, but a product designed specifically for the front desk to be used in conjunction with the computer of the workstation.
