Garmin Instinct: Wearable with GPS for trekking and more
Garmin Instinct is the new wearable of the company that does not aim to be a smartwatch but a valid support for those who perform outdoor sports and want to have a long battery life without giving up the GPS.
Garmin Instinct is the wearable of the company designed to be used to be used in outdoor sports, especially if you want to use the location by GPS. This is not a real smartwatch, but its simplicity has also allowed us to have some interesting advantages.
The new Garmin Instinct has a structure that provides a case made more resistant through the use of polymer matrix fibers: this allows to withstand extreme temperatures but also bumps and dives up to 100 meters.
On the front of Garmin Instinct, there is a black-and-white display (MIP) so as to be more easily readable in direct light conditions while the glass has been reinforced by a chemical process. As written at the beginning, this wearable has GPS, GLONASS and GALILEO integrated so as not to have to rely on a smartphone.
Also within the Garmin Instinct we find the altimeter, barometer and compass that can be used to program routes to follow through the Garmin Explore app. If you want to go back to the starting point, with TrackBack you can use the wearable to retrace the previously beaten path. Garmin Instinct integrates into the company’s device ecosystem and can ” work ” with inReach Mini (to launch SOS) or with VIRB action cams to capture its own outputs.
In addition to the physical activity part, it is possible to monitor sleep, stress and heartbeat so as to have a general idea of the user’s state of form even when not engaged in sports. Various activities such as trekking, downhill, snowboarding, swimming, kayaking and skiing are supported, trying to cover most of the user’s possible choices.
The collected data can be downloaded to Garmin Connect / Mobile so you can share it with other people. Clearly, Garmin Instinct also allows you to receive notifications from the associated smartphone such as emails, calls, social and more.
One aspect that should not be underestimated is the autonomy and, according to the company data, you can get to 40 hours in UltraTrac mode (energy saving) and up to 16 hours using GPS. The user can choose between three colors for the Garmin Instinct: Graphite, Tundra and Flame Red.
