Access to all online content without geographical restrictions? With the provider UnoTelly is possible without VPN and a monthly fee of less than $4. We tried it.
Everyone sooner or later surfing the net will ever try to play a trailer, a video clip or another movie and find themselves instead in front of a screen where it is announced that the video is not available in our country.
Despite the geographical boundaries on the Internet does not have much sense, unfortunately, in the world of copyright things, I am very different and so it happens that certain contents are licensed, with clauses that require Web sites that host them to restrict access to only those PCs that are connected inside the national borders. The internet is no real boundaries and there are different ways to bring up our PC as connected to another part of the world.
The most classic is to use a VPN (virtual private network), a kind of tunnel where one side is our device and the other a server located in the country where we want to ” appear ” and through which passes all traffic.
With a VPN typically our traffic is also encrypted and our communications made anonymous, but has the disadvantage of being very suitable for streaming and downloading large amounts of data, because the services that guarantee a good bandwidth also relatively high costs. Another class of services that always has the benefit of being able to hide in some way the nationalities of our IP address is that of Smart DNS, or better yet Smart DNS Proxy Server, as UnoTelly service we tested.
A Proxy Intelligent
Before describing in detail the offer of UnoTelly, we see what is different than a normal VPN and Smart DNS. A proxy server, in principle may seem similar to a VPN server that stands between us and the rest of the Internet and through which we pass all traffic. Compared to a VPN is generally not encrypted end-to-end, and in addition it has the same disadvantages as regards the guaranteed bandwidth. Smart DNS as UnoTelly perform a similar function, but in a more intelligent, so as to ensure the speed of the connection that we would normally and at the same time change the geolocation of our PC.
In practice, the ” trick ” is to configure the network settings of a special DNS instead of those provided by our providers or other public DNS, able to target a specific proxy only communications addressed to a particular service with regional bloc and only for data that reveal the origin of our ” call ” the actual download of the video takes place directly. The advantages of this solution are manifold: there is no need to install any software for the purpose the special DNS can be configured on any device, there are no limits on our band and if the DNS are configured on the router at home, all the devices on the same network will have access to the Internet without regional restrictions. The cons are mainly two: the traffic is not encrypted as in VPN sites and ” unlocked ” are only those supported by the service provider of smart DNS.
The offer UnoTelly
UnoTelly is a smart DNS provider that offers unrestricted access to a large number of services usually blocked in Italy. The complete list is very long, but some services are very talked-as Netflix, Hulu, Pandora, Vevo, Beats Music, BBC iPlayer, Cracker, HBO Go and many others (the list is available here).
Among the supported services is also Sky Go, very interesting option with a subscription to Sky and who are often working abroad. UnoTelly offers two subscription plans, Premium Plan from $ 4.95 per month which unlocks access to all the services supported and a Gold Plan that includes a true VPN for $ 7.95 per month.
The operation of the service is very simple: just enter in the settings of our Internet device the DNS provided by UnoTelly and you’re done. If our ISP provides a fixed IP, after an initial login on UnoTelly, the service is configured, otherwise, periodically, you may need to get back on the web page to update our address, but also just set up a special bookmark that makes the job immediately.
The same is true if we use the service from multiple connections (eg, home and office, or if we are abroad). The interesting thing is that UnoTelly offers a feature called Dynamo that lets you choose, some services, in which country appear.
Don’t forget to try UnoTelly Service; I’m sure you’ll like it.
