Google, challenge to fake news with the new Google News: Here are all the news
A new app designed from scratch will help Google to improve the reliability of the proposed news, trying to combat various phenomena such as fake news and clickbait.
Among the most serious scourges of the modern online world there are fake news. This is a problem that according to many has compromised the political balance of the last elections in different countries of the world favoring the advance of populist parties, with a good share of users who would not be able to distinguish between genuine and non-genuine content, modeling your own thinking based on false information. Many are trying to fight the phenomenon, and Google has announced its strategy during the Google I/O 2018.
The online research giant has announced the latest update in Google News, which will have the ultimate goal of supporting quality journalism. Within this initiative, approximately $ 300 million will be invested over the next 3 years in order to collaborate with publishers to improve the quality of content offered on the service.
The app will naturally boast the support of artificial intelligence to improve the relevance and quality of the sources proposed, and solve three main problems: to guarantee the user to find news of interest, to easily understand the content and to support the source.
The service will have a stand-alone app that will allow operations to be carried out efficiently and optimized, developed on the basis of the dictates of Material Design. In the app there will be five contents visible right away within the section For you, among those that could be the most interesting for each specific user: the sources will be chosen on the basis of different factors, such as the geolocation of the device to provide news from local publishers.
Very interesting is the complete coverage feature, which provides a complete picture of the world in which the same news is dealt with from different sources. With just one click you can see more titles of the same news, with the choice that in this case will be the same for all users and not dictated by the browsing history of any of them.
This is because, according to Google, everyone must have access to the same information to produce a ” fruitful ” debate. The Securities section, instead, allows an unfiltered view of news from around the world, while you can choose specific categories with topics such as business, technology, sports, entertainment, and more.
Google has finally announced the Subscribe with Google initiative, with which to subscribe to their favorite sources within a single service and access all the content purchased on all platforms and on any device. The new Google News replaces Google Play Newsstand and the Google News – Weather app, and will be available for all Android, iOS and web devices in 127 countries.
