Google Photos revolutionizes Instagram Stories: this is how the Big G version will look like
Available today, on delivery on all Android and iOS terminals, the new features on Google Photos are definitely interesting to abandon yourself to the past.
Google is adding some features on Google Photos to allow users to indulge in memories. This is a practice that already encourages the ” rediscover this day ” function, which has been present on the service for a long time, but with the new function called ” Memories ” the style drastically changes. In short, Big G takes up the Instagram Stories, adopts them and presents them on Photos.
Unlike the ” Rediscover this day ” feature, which we find in the Assistant section of the app, the new function does not have a special tab but is presented at the top of the main screen where the photo gallery is present. Every single memory will present photos and videos taken in a single day (if it reminds you of something it is because it is the same setup as Instagram). But let’s go with order
The stories also arrive on Google Photos, and are called Memories
By clicking on one of the icons, the app will propose the most significant photos and videos among those made on the same day in previous years. The user will see a horizontally-oriented list starting from ” 1 year ago “, ” 2 years ago “, and so on, drawing photos from the Google Photos online archive. By viewing a photo of the Memories you can click on the right side to see the next one, on the left side for the previous one.
A button (with three dots) in the upper-right corner will also allow you to see all the selection of photos for that specific day. The choice of photos and videos will be at the discretion of an algorithm, but the user will be able to choose some options: you can decide to prevent some people from appearing in the Memories, or you can inhibit some time frames. The user can also disable them, thus preventing the Memories from appearing on the front page.
There is a big difference between the Google Photos Memories and Instagram Stories: the first ones, will be visible only and exclusively by the user and will not be public. In the coming months, Big G will also add the ability to share photos and videos with friends and relatives in a more ” discursive ” way within messages directed at the user. Furthermore, the possibility of reliving your past will not only be digital.
Among the functions of the new Google Photos, there is also the possibility of making paper prints and photo albums directly from the app, and until September 30th the delivery is free. The Memories have already been formalized and launched to the public, with the distribution of the novelty that has already started on the Android and iOS clients of the service.
