How to create a password-protected folder
The protection of personal data on your computer, especially if used by other people, is very important, there are cryptographic systems that make private information contained in files and folders inaccessible.
In Windows operating systems, it is not always possible or easy to create a password-protected folder, unless specific programs such as My Lockbox are used.
It is a freeware application capable of hiding or blocking a directory. It is easy to use and is available in several languages. It does not limit the size of the data to be protected and is compatible with all versions of Windows from XP onwards.
Before downloading the program from the official website, it is advisable to have a fairly secure password, which should be written somewhere and stored. There are several online services that allow you to generate random passwords composed of 6 to 23 alphanumeric characters.
One of these is Secure Password Generator. Select the options shown on the page and then click on the Generate Secure Password button. Copy it and paste it into a text file which will then be deleted for security reasons. For now, leave it open, it will serve during the installation of the MyLockbox program.
Download the software and unzip the compressed folder. Launch the executable and proceed with the installation. The program will immediately identify the system language and will be instantly in Italian. Press the Next button to continue and to finish.
At the end of the process, a screen will appear asking you to enter a password, a suggestion and the email address. This last information is fundamental, because it allows to recover the secret word in case of loss. Enter the string generated with the online service and click OK.
On the next screen, the application will ask for a new or existing folder to be protected. This can be selected through the Browse button or dragged from the Explorer window to the MyLockbox window.
If instead you want to create a new one, you can do it by pressing the Create new button from the dialog that will be activated. Confirm the operation by pressing the OK button.
The directory has been blocked, so it will no longer be visible. To unlock it, click on the MyLockbox Control Panel desktop icon, press the Unblock button, and it will be visible and accessible again.
