Restore points can be thought of as archives, where all the settings, programs, and drivers on your computer at any given time are stored so that you can restore them when needed. It may be necessary to restore your PC to a previous condition, keeping the documents unaltered; this can be done easily using recovery points.
System Restore is normally enabled by default on Microsoft operating systems, but on Windows 10, it is not. In the following lines, I will illustrate how to activate the functionality in question and then create a restore point.
How to activate the function of creating restore points
To activate the function that allows you to create restore points on Windows 10 (disabled on this operating system, by default), all you have to do is click on the start button (the Windows flag at the bottom left of the screen), type control panel in the search bar and click on the relevant result in the list. The control panel window has now opened, click on System and security, then on System, and finally on Advanced system settings.
At this point, it is necessary to click on the System Protection tab, select the system disk (it is the one with the system entry next to it), and from the section corresponding to the heading Security settings, click on Configure… At this point, you have to choose the Activate system protection option and then confirm the changes by clicking on Apply and finally on OK.
Create and manage recovery points
Once the function is enabled (mentioned in the previous paragraph), it is possible to create and manage restore points, which are usually created automatically by Windows 10 when new software or driver is installed. Despite this, there is also a way to create them manually.
To manually create a restore point, you need to go to the main screen of the Control panel, select the System and security item, click on System, and finally on System protection. Then you need to click on Create … And in the new window that opened on the desktop, type a name to mark the restore point you are going to create and finally click on Create.
After completing these operations, the system will take a few moments to create the restore point and when the operation is completed, a warning will appear on the screen. To close this window, you need to click Close.
Restore the system
Once you have created one or more restore points, you can use them to restore your system to a previous condition. To do this, you need to click on the Start button, type Restore in the search bar, and click on the Restore item from the list shown to you. In the window, which will subsequently open, click on Open System Restore and click on Next.
At this point, it is necessary to indicate the date to which the system status is to be reported and start the recovery procedure by pressing first on forward and then on end, and then finally confirm the operation that you are about to perform by clicking on Yes in response the notice that will appear on the screen.
To find out which applications and which drivers will be removed following the use of a certain restore point, you must select the latter in the Windows restore utility and click on the Search affected programs button.
If only the Recommended restore option appears, to view the list of all available restore points, you need to check the item Choose a different restore point and click on Next. If, on the other hand, it is possible to view only the most recent restore points, and you want to restore the system to a condition before the available restore points, you must check the Show additional restore points item.
