Windows Script Host is a programming environment, pre-installed, but disabled on Windows, which allows users to run scripts manually: a script is a program or sequence of instructions that is executed by another program.
It can make use of a different script engine as JavaScript and VBscript that are set by default, but you can install also others such as Perl. Windows Script Host is a very powerful and versatile tool, but some viruses use it as a way of spreading, so if you are not familiar with computer languages, it is recommended to have it disabled for security reasons.
That said, with this guide, through simple steps, I’ll show you how to enable Windows Script Host on any PC with Windows operating system. The attached pictures are taken from a PC with Windows 8.1.
- Turn on your computer and preinstalled with a Windows operating system (such as Windows 98, XP, Vista, 7, or 8.1). If you have Windows 7 or earlier, click the Start button that you find in the bottom left corner and select ” Run ” from the menu. If you have a Windows 8.1, position the cursor on the Start button at the bottom left and click the right button: select ” Run ” from the menu that opened.
- Type the word ” regedit ” in lower case in the text box and press the ” Enter ” key located on the right side of your keyboard: this will open the Windows Registry Editor, which comes in two sections and we will call ” right ” and ” left “.
- On the section of the ” left ” of the Windows Registry Editor, there is a menu of folders. Double click on the ” HKEY_CURRENT_USER “, then ” Programs “, then ” Microsoft, ” then ” Windows Script Host ” and then click ” Settings “.
- Double-click on ” Enable ” or ” Enable ” or ” Default ” (depends on the version of the operating system you have installed on your computer) that you find in the ” right ” of the window and set the value 1. Return to the parent folders of ‘ Windows Registry Editor, select the folder ” HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE “, double click on ” Software ” and ” Microsoft “, then ” Windows Script Host ” and then ” Settings “. Double-click on ” Enable ” or ” Enable ” or ” Default ” and set the value to 1. This is all, in doing so have successfully validated Windows Script Host.
