If you are wondering how to share files with a Mac OS X on a PC running Windows, this is the guide for you.
Share file means to make them accessible to other users, either on the same device (if there are multiple users on a single computer) or through the network. In this case, we want to make accessible the files on a Mac (with one of the latest operating systems) to a PC connected to the network.
To do so need a direct access to your Mac as an administrator. So, before making the steps, make sure to be logged on with an Administrator account. If at the end of the guide the operation fails, check that the firewall of the router is up to date. Now we can proceed with the steps.
- After logging in, click on ” System Preferences “, which is typically located in the Dock at the bottom right. If you are unable to find it, click on the Apple menu (the apple in the upper left), where you will find the ” System Preferences “.
- In System Preferences, do click on ” Sharing ” (it is the icon of the folder is shown in the figure above). If you have difficulty finding it, you can use the system to search through the box in the upper right of the window. Once opened the ” Sharing ” you’ll see a window similar to that shown above. On the left side of the window displays a list of services that can be turned on or off simply by clicking on the box to the left of the name. Check that the service ” File Sharing ” is enabled (must have the check in the box in the name), otherwise problem will need to activate it by clicking the checkbox.
- To select the files to share, click on the ” + ” located below the list of shared folders. In the window that appears you can choose a file to share (use the button CMD, if you want to share more than one file). To access the shared files you just connect to the IP address shown immediately above the ” Options ” button. As an alternative to this procedure, you can share files or permission and factors of sharing, which are located in the information window of the file. To access this window, just use the key combination ” the CMD “, or press the right button on the file and select ” Get Info “.
