HTC announces Exodus, phone blockchain with attention to privacy
A new project with the aim of bringing blockchain technologies to the smartphone world. HTC is not the first, but it is probably the best positioned for commercial success.
HTC is preparing to launch the next top of the range, U12+ and already think about what will come later: the company has announced in recent hours to be at work for the development of a ” blockchain phone ” called Exodus.
There are not really many details about it, except that it will be an Android smartphone, with particular attention to privacy, and integrated support to a multi-currency wallet. The company aims to double and triple the ethereum and bitcoin nodes through these Exodus units and bring many more users closer to decentralized applications (DApp).
The Exodus project is coordinated by HTC’s new Decentralized Chief Officer, Phil Chen, recently appointed. Chen is best known for kicking off the VR project which then took shape in HTC Vive. ” I want to see a world where consumers can really own their data (browsing history, identity, wallets, emails, messages) without the need for central authorities. ” There’s a lot of work to do, but I think that mobile hardware can contribute significantly to our decentralized world, ” commented Chen.
HTC is not the first reality to announce such an initiative. Sirin Labs has already outlined a list of technical specifications related to its phone blockchain called Finney, although there is still a specific launch date. Earlier in the year, it was rumored that Huawei was considering a blockchain device based on the Sirin Labs system. There are also BitVault and Blacture that both claim to have made the world’s first phone blockchain, although neither is yet available.
For now, HTC is simply placing a ” placeholder “, but it is likely that over the next few months we will know a few more details about the project probably accompanied by the announcement of new partnerships.
